Tire replacement question...

it's clear that between aggressive cornering and having fun with heavy braking and acceleration... that tires will wear out fast....

what's been your experience with M3 tire set. Presumably you have to replace all four, right? What's the approx cost and how many miles are you getting?

I'm expecting to get about the same or a little less than I did with my E46 M3, ~15k average. The fronts will last longer than the rears, typically, but I did run into DSC problems once when I replaced just the rears.

interesting... I would have thought the fronts would go out first, due to heavy cornering temptations. OK, with my mileage, as this is a fun car, not the daily driver, 15K miles would last me a good 18 months I should think. Looks like a new set of PS/2s will run about $1500 installed?

If it's not your DD, like mine, your mileage may vary! Yes, you will wear the fronts more if doing mostly "fun" driving, but I still expect most will wear the rears faster. Current Tire Rack price on stock 19s is $1,430, plus mounting & balancing, of course.

I have 8700 miles on her so far and probably still have around 40% tread in the rear and 60% in the front...

I hadn't measured mine until now. New depth is 10/32". With 8,315 miles, I have 8/32" front and 7/32" rear (measured at the center of the tread). If you take them down to legal minimum of 2/32", that means I've only used 25% front and 38% rear.

At that rate, I'd get at least 30k miles front and 20k rear. That's amazing! I must be driving like a pussy, but I didn't think so! Must be EDC/DSC! If they get down near the start of Winter, I would replace them at 4/32".

I'm thinking my set should be good for at least 20k miles. Perhaps one of the reasons for the less wear is all the cool wet weather in the PNW. Pretty much from end of Oct until early April the weather does not permit driving the car hard unless asking for trouble. I think most of my wear has come from the 3-4 drives I took the car on with other BMW enthusiasts/buddies up here lol.

20K-30K miles? I can live with that.

I thought RWD cars always wear out their rear tires first
