gg snow pwned my car

so i was parked literally 10 ft away from my drive way, it waas snowing and since I have the summer tires I knew i couldnt make it to work with this car. So i decided to move it to my drive way since its most likely safer for there since on my block theres no snow truck to come melt the snow and people drive crazy. So i go out, warm up my range get in my m3 and look to just reverse literally 10 feet into my drive way get into my range and get to work. BUT Once it hit reverse on the m3 GG, it just rolled down the hill and i couldnt do anything to stop it. Luckily 2 people helped me push it to a local parking garage and its safely parked there ( at least i hope it is). Paid the parking lot guy 10 bucks and he said i can park it til monday morning. Sighh I should've left it parked . didnt noe i cant even reverse 10 feet.

PS2s + snow = going nowhere. Seriously, the rubber turns to plastic in the cold and with performance tread you might as well have slicks on. At least you didn't hit anything, right?

I had a similar situation. All I needed to do was move the car into my garage. My driveway barely slopes and It wouldn't go anywhere.

i thought about it...then late last night before it started snowing here drove to work, left the M3 in the garage there, and took one of the company SUVs home...after reading this it was def a wise decision.

Can we all stop trying to drive summer tires in the snow...compare these two tires...the PS2's are not going anywhere in the snow...just like the Blizzacks are not going to do well at the track...these are purpose built tires and do their repective jobs very well

Took my E46 (with 1 month old PS2's) out on snowpack/icy roads today around Seattle. It was 20-25 degrees this afternoon. The area I live in has nearly level streets so I thought I could manage a quick trip to the store. Just had to putt around in second gear, keep momentum on corners when possible, DSC off etc. It was a little slick but not impossible. I wouldn't recommend taking them out on any non-flat roadways.

I'm thinking for picking up the 4 door, got a Element to beat the piss out of and it worked great yesterday in the snow w/ snows on, its definitely a cheap alternative (read POS) that gets the job done...

I'm in the Boston area, and we got "hit" yesterday pretty good. I drove my M home from work at 4pm through some plowed and some unplowed streets with Blizzaks LM-25s. No issues really. I was on MDM all the time to allow for more spin (if needed) when going up small hills, etc. The key is still to be very, very smooth on the throttle and brakes (and steering input). I was mostly in 2nd gear for engine braking, revving hard/high (but smooth on the pedal up AND down). Hardly used the brakes. Some stop light starts gave some spin, but nothing dramatic at all. Had to do tiny corrections a several times, but again, no big deal. Even with snow tires, MDM/DSC, etc., all cars are still subject to laws of physics. So just be careful and use common sense. Don't accelerate going downhill, going into a turn, etc. Be gentle. You may have to make a lot of small adjustments in the car to be smooth. I remember years back when I was getting my SCCA license at Skip Barber an instructor saying to me that to be smooth with the car may require you to do many things in the car. Many small adjustments on throttle, steering, etc. A good analogy is an acrobat walking on the high wire. It looks smooth and is, but he/she is constantly making tiny adjustments to keep his/her balance.
