the beefy build

Parts are starting to trickle in, some are in the mail, and some are being built. This thread is going to be focused on the vision I have for this car, however silly, and sometimes that changes. I do my best at something, but I also change my mind, and make mistakes. The objective; to build a lightweight, beautiful, E92 M3 that is an absolute pleasure to drive.

Suspension;
-Moton 2-way coils with remote reservoirs and true rear coilovers. 550 pound springs up front, 400 pound springs in the back.
-Full SPL catalog.
-Fall Line rear LCA for true rear coil (SPL doesn’t make this part yet)
-Ground Control camber race camber plates
-MRF solid subframe bushings, delrin diff bushings *already on the car

DCT;
-Fluid and filter change
-Fall line DCT pan
-Do88 cooler

Lightweight bits;
-Carbon hood- talking with Luke Customs (to be used with aerocatch latches)
-Carbon trunk- talking with Luke Customs (to be used with aerocatch latches)
-Searching for carbon trunk floor
-Searching for carbon gt2 mirrors (RKP)
-Carbon gas tank service covers in the mail
-Finish removing all sound insulation and carpet
-Find more things to drill
-A/C delete
-More titanium
-Team Schirmer carbon door (oem replicas)
-Plastics4performance rear window and rear quarter windows
-Titanium tow hook/straps
-Voltphreaks VPH900 battery

Engine and drivetrain;
-Karbonius intake
-AFE xpipe (high flow cats, resonated)
-Vorsteiner type two titanium rear exhust
-Mfactory carbon driveshaft
-Drexler GT4 “lite” LSD by Florian, oem DCT 3.15 ratio
-Thinking of mild cams, but this is going to depend on budget
-Tune

Aero;
-Zebulon front splitter with 3D endplates
-Aeromotions S1 Dynamic wing. 72” width, 13” chord, extended uprights.
-Still exploring a flat floor and a real rear diffuser
-APR spats
-OEM GT4 canards

Brakes;
-Essex parts cp5060 (front) and cp5040 (rear) AP Racing brakes
-Speigler stainless brake lines
-Cobalt Friction Pads
-SRF fluid

Seats
-Sparco QRT-C seats (12.5lbs each)
-Brey Krause seat mounts for oem sliders (non-powered seats)
-Brey Krause harness bar
-Simpson Hybrid S HANS device
-Undecided on harnesses (I need some guidance and research here)

I'm going to expand on a couple of things a little later when I have time, particularly aero. I'll do some videos on a few parts here and there as they arrive. Its going to be amateur hour, don't expect great vids.
I'm completely open to debate and discussion.

Good build list. Out of curiosity, why are you keeping OE gear ratio? Seems like daily drivability doesn't matter.

Oem DCT ratio just seems good. I don't have any complaints.

Hard to compete against a steep discount.

no real reason other than a track friend was going to give them to me, but i insisted he let me give him $1k for them. they were a bit old and needed an extensive rebuild.

i always kinda wanted the motons since they are regarded as "better" than mcs, but i couldn't tell you why- i didn't dive down that rabbit hole yet. my friend's generosity made my decision clear.

As I said above hard to compete against that price. You'll be far ahead even with a full rebuild to your spec.

the rebuild turned out to be more expensive than i thought, and i still came out ahead. i sent them to performance shock, inc., at the recommendation of a few trusted sources. two of the cannisters had internal scoring, indicating possible mounting problems where the reservoir was squished out of round. the hoses were slightly kinked from being stored for a few years. i got two new reservoirs, four new hoses, all new seals, and the springs tested for $4k. mrs beef was not happy with me.

I've been using Sparco 6-point harnesses since 2015. Been happy with them. I'm on my second set because the first set aged out. (They expire.) I have the version that narrows to 2" for the neck restraint. Otherwise the rest is 3" webbing.

Congrats on committing to this project! I hope it goes smoothly and you enjoy the process. Can't wait to hear more!

thank you for that! i'm going to sparco next week, so maybe i'll just pick up some harnesses while i'm there. the simpson hybrid S HANS device can be used with oem three point belts, but can also be used with harnesses.

this process has been overwhelming in a good way. some things i want to do myself, and some more technical things like suspension is going to be done at MRF. I'm not equipped to install coils, arms, and corner balance.

the doors are going to be fun. if they are just oem replicas it should be just a few nuts and bolts.

i might have a go with the seats, harnesses, and harness bar. doesn't seem too technical, but i don't want to get it wrong. i'll still have a professional eyeball it after.

i'm drawing inspiration from many different builds on the forum. you're one of them and a secondary inspiration is your tracking, trailering, and competing at your age (even though you're not old). it sort of kept me patient and gave me the discipline to keep at things- there is plenty of time for the fun stuff later in life, the best has yet to come. so thanks for that, and your continued contributions.

That's how I got my first set of harnesses. Visited their Irvine store and picked them up there. Nice people. The store is super mellow. They have a bunch of seats setup if you want to size them.

I'm always glad when my experiences can give other people perspective on their own motorsport journeys. I don't think my route into motorsport was a "normal" one, but here I am doing it. And it's been a very fulfilling journey for me (aside from all the darn problems with the car in 2021). I've been happy to call people on this forum my friends. Tracking with SYT_Shadow, his brother and rhyary last week for the first time is another example of how the friendships just keep evolving.

Anyway, I'm eager to see how your build turns out. Curious what the final weight will be!!

I'll throw my vote out for the schroth 2" harness. I have one in my e46 and they're a pleasure to strap in and out of. No fuss and Hans compatible.

This is going to be awesome. I’m very curious to see the finished weight! How much do the carbon doors save? Has to be a huge amount (I assume these are the outer skins and not just inner door cards)

i can confirm 3.45 is amazing on DCT helps with the low end ompff you'll want sometimes. something to look out for. doesn't need a TCU tuning.

The schirmer doors are oem replicas that allow for use of the oem window and latching system. Oem door weight is documented to be around 70 lbs, but I'm not sure what that includes.
The schirmer doors weigh about 11 pounds. I'll be doing a full write up on these including weights, how they fit, and what is required for the swap.
The door cards and speakers are heavy, and won't be going back on. I'll likely run a blank door card with a handle to open it and a pull strap. The window switches will be relocated. I'll likely get rid of the powered mirrors.
I think I might be in the neighborhood of 110lbs of savings with these. $45/lb ain't too bad.
