$1K Under MSRP on MY2009 E90 M3
Does $1000 under MSRP on a MY2009 E90 M3 in the Houston (Texas) area sound like a good deal? Is anyone in the area getting a better deal on ordering a 2009?

They said no as they only have an allocation for so many cars, and they were all pre sold. It looks like on the forum that the best deals are on any 08 in stock. Just my 2 cent's, I am probably wrong. Scott |

I contacted all the Florida dealers and got offers from $2000 to $3500 off MSRP on a 2009 E92 M3. You can do better, but you might have to work at it and try other dealers. I am doing the PCD so I didn't care what dealer got my money.

The markup is near 9% on a M3, so $2000-3000 over invoice is a good deal even for a DCT equipped car. You are not getting a good deal at only $1000 off. These figures are for LA/Cali....Tx should be able to do a lot better.
Get a reference on a cool CA from friends who own M's or BMW's. The right CA has to be an expert on M series and a BMW enthusiast. Not just car salesman or saleswoman. Walk in with the 2009 BMW pricing guide and negotiate UP from Invoice, not down from MSRP. Good luck... Cheers, |

Don't let the dealer play around with you. Dealer can tell you anything. Be bold and straight forward. Talk to internet department or fleet manager. If they say "no", tell them, ok, your loss and not mine. Look for a different dealership.

I'm sure if you know what you're doing and play some hardball, you could score a deal on an '08, but it'll take some serious work to do better than $1,500 off MSRP on an '09. |

I've never understood this mentality. Perhaps you could expain it to me. I mean if you know what the invoice price is and you know the MSRP price, what difference does it make if I tell you I got $3500 off MSRP or $1500 over invoice?

It's psychological. Instead of starting at their goal and working your way to yours, you start from your goal and make the dealer try to work his way up.

Yeah so I say I want $5000 off MSRP which is right around invoice and work from there. No need to confuse yourself or the dealer with psychological mind games.

It's not just psychological mind games. The MSRP is a completely arbitrary number that BMW suggests that these cars should be selling for. What you want to do is deal in terms of what that car cost the dealer and add in X amount for dealer profit. When you're dealing in MSRP numbers, you're dealing with arbitrary numbers. And the discount that you need off of MSRP to reach invoice will vary depending on how the car is optioned. For example, my car would need a discount more like $6k to reach invoice. It's actually much less confusing for you and the dealer to talk in terms of invoice. Only one set of numbers to keep track of. If you deal in terms of MSRP, you have to constantly calculate how it relates to invoice. Easier just to deal straight with invoice.

King Tut, it is simple. Build the car on Edmund.com. Find out the invoice and MSRP. Email several dealer, and be straightforward: I will pay you 1000 over invoice. YES or NO? Some dealers might reject it, and try to tell you that I will give you 1000 off of MSRP. Next! Until you get it. I am positive you will get the price you are looking for

We're still just splitting hairs here. I know we are all informed buyers and dealers know that we know what invoice is. I still prefer talking about MSRP price because that is what is on the sticker. Then you don't have to worry about them say adjusting their "invoice" price on you. When there is a sticker and an MSRP they can't change that. You guys do it your way, and I will enjoy my $3500 off MSRP I got.

Hi, I just registered and am interested in getting a 2009 E92 M3. I've talked to Momentum BMW and the sale man said the best he could do is "maybe" $500 off MSRP. I think this is B.S. I was hoping for something closer to $2000 - $2500 off MSRP. The guy did say that I could get $2,500 off MSRP on any in-stock 2008 M3 though.
Anybody in Houston get any better offers from dealers in Houston that's better than a mere $500 off MSRP for a 2009? If so, please let me know which dealership and who the salesman was! Thanks. |

Try dealers in New Orleans, Pensacola, etc. You might get a better deal if you're willing to drive a little bit. Once you get an offer you like, add gas and travel costs to it, and take it to your local dealers. Tell them you'll give them that much for it, take it or leave it. If they don't want the sale, do your break-in on I-5. From surfing the forums, looks like some of the best deals in the country are in Florida.
