New 200 Rating tire....

If this is anything like the A08B, thats slick level grip for 200 wear.

Anyone here has experience with it?

Interesting how many options are appearing these days at TW200. From their marketing material it appears it's geared more toward track use as opposed to SCCA street tire TW200 autox competition (like the RE-71R and RivalS), but this is the first I've seen of this tire.

On the other ft86 forum one chap mentioned Gazoo Racing in Japan has been using these for competition and they are closer to slick territory.

Time will tell.

Looks like old version of MPSC tires, which I had and didn't like at all. These should have new and improved compound, we just have to wait and see, but I already don't like the price.

They look nice. The more options we have the better

Right now the RE71 is still king of the castle, but there's the Rival S 1.5, the RS4 and this one fresh in the market!

Not SCCA legal in many sizes due to molded tread depth, unless the TR specs are a typo or bad info

Good point! Yokohama lists 6/32 as the molded tread depth for all sizes on their website. Strange that they'd produce a TW200 tire and not come in a 7/32. Then again, it appears the compound is not meant to compete in SCCA autocross against the leaders based on their description.

Hopefully they're a kickass track tire that can be driven to the track

Looks like it might be a killer tire.

The treadwear number has largely become a marketing tool. The last five years have seen a rise in the popularity of budget racing with 24 Hours of Lemons, Chumpcar, AER and Lucky Dog. With those series combined you'll have a race running on any given weekend with 50-150 teams on track, all required to run on minimum 180 or 190 treadwear tires. Between that and SCCA autocross, there's a huge incentive for manufacturers to compete for the best tire with a "200" stamped on the side.

A few years back the Hankook RS-3 was a 140 treadwear tire and then magically changed to 200 without any change in design.

Agreed! While the autox guys wont be able to run it since its not 7/32 but the Nasa guys can get freebie points by running these (+2 vs +4) in both PT and TT. Unless they catch it early on and classify these as 60 or 80+ tire like they did with RE71R and Rival 1.5S

Turn off is the pricing.

These tires, the A052, are more of a Michelin Sport Cup 2 rival than the street tires like the RS4, AD08R, RE71R etc. They wanted a R compound tire that had longevity like the Cup 2. They're designed as a replacement of the A048 tire.

Interested in a review if anyone has used them!

You don't think the psc2 is similar to a re71? Seems the same to me, albeit more expensive

I have all the tires I need for this season but i'm interested in these... we will see

someone put up a review - seems like reviewer doesn't like it compared to re71r but also said you may need to get some decent heat into them to work.

Very interested to hear more about these tires. I really liked Cup 2's (but $$) and currently run RE-71r's. Always looking for the next best thing though, like the 295/30 and 295/35 rear size options, wish they had a 275/35 or 285/30 for the front though. Anyone jammed a 295/30 up front yet?

The RE71R is more of an autocross tire than track tire. The RE71R starts off very grippy when cold but the RE71R overheats on track and gets greasy after 10+ minutes of lapping. The AD08R had a bit less overall grip but gets less greasy while lapping.

No idea how this A052 does.

No, it's a totally different category. PSC2 is a R compound tire that is designed for track use. The RE71R is an extreme performance tire. It gets close to the grip of a R compound but is still a street tire so it compromises on some grip to allow it to perform in normal street driving.

I have an R888R in that size. Not mounted yet, but I'll test it in September.

If it fits I'll have a new favorite size! But I don't know... with fender liners still in there it will be really aggressive

I've run both, albeit in different cars, and don't agree. Regardless of the marketing choice of category, they seem very similar.

There's certain things that can't be measured by a lap times. Things like grip in rain or through standing water, other things such as ride comfort and road noise. And of course warm up times and overheating.

My experience with the RE71R is that they overheat rather quickly on track and get greasy towards the end of a track session. No experience with the PSC2 but I assume they can last longer.

Here's a thread with more info on RE71R and some other tires under different conditions. The RE71R is well known for overheating and not a good choice on a heavy car like the M3 on track.

Here's what 295/30-18 up front and 315/30-18 in the back looks like:
