1/18 Scale E90m3 Build Thread

As you E90 lovers know, it's pretty impossible to find a 1/18 scaled model of a E90M3 LCI. I happened to find one a couple months back when I was out in Hong Kong. I bought it for about $115USD and decided to turn it into a replica of my E90M3.

Here's a couple pics of my car....

Here's a couple pics of the 1/18.

I started to 3D print some parts, but the parts are so thin and fine, it was completely melted. Ended up making some parts out of styrene sheets...

front lip done!

roof rack...

ended up find a set of black ZCP wheels on ebay, so I painted it white...

closest color to Jerez Black Metallic....

front end done...

yeah...I guess it's time for the rear spoiler...

test fit...

tweaked...

another shot of the front end...

until tomorrow...

Nice job so far. The color looks more like Interlagos Blue to me but maybe it's just the lighting.

I wonder if those 220m wheels would fit on my Kyosho model.

Thanks guys... Model crafting is in my blood since I'm in Architecture

I'm making all of my parts by hand, which is tricky.

Those styrene parts look like crap, if youre gonna spend that much time on something like this at least do those better.

You can use bondo(or kitty hair) to mold and shape small parts where it meets the body and use the styrene for the flat bits like the front lip.

Looks dope. Only thing I don't like is the rear spoiler. Everything else is money.

Looks great! I have the same GT Spirit E90 model.

How do you remove the wheels from the model?

You have to remove the screws on the bottom. The rear is under the exhaust, IIRC.

It's actually a lot more work to do than I expected. I am aiming to finish by Rallye BMW show!

Yes, we should do a photoshoot, I'm trying to take the shell out so I can refinish the interior, but that seems like i'll be breaking off a lot of stuff

Yes a lot of work isn't the word. All the interior panels just come out but then you have to glue everything back in, lots of work there.

Does the color look more like JB in person? The pics make it look like it's not even close.
