since all the M3post.com life coaches have provided their valuable input:
-This is OP's possible first car, which parents will match the amount of money saved. -Hell yes, get the high mileage M3 if you can swing it, and if your folks are helping with maintenance, insurance and operating costs. #YOLO -If my kid managed to work and save $15k for their first car, I absolutely would match them 100% towards it, though I would know better than to get something as expensive to operate as an M3. -If they aren't, then listen to one of the life coaches here that suggested several great cars that cost much less to own and operate.

There are so cars that are still nice and cool that are cheaper to fix/cost of car. I wouldn't want a m3 if care about gas, price of fixing stuff etc.

I currently own a 2007 civic SI in fiji blue. Fun car to drive and pretty quick too, but not fast enough. I just recently hit 100k and the motor still feels great! The reliability of this car has been amazing. I got it new off the lot with 17 miles. I have never had a problem with it. Motor still feels brand new. However im 24 now and have out grown the car. My next choice will be a 2012/13 335i sedan or an 09 m3 sedan. I still will be keeping the SI.... Just opened up account a few days ago and im and currently learning more and more as i read through these post. Good luck with your choice and i hope you make the right decision!

Based on your thinking and numbers you're throwing out....you can't afford it. Even if you barely scrape the money together, you can't afford the insurance and maintenance.
I'm guessing you're more of a $15k car situation right now. Do you even contribute to a 401k and Roth IRA? |
