Can EDC setting be programmed into remote?
I have a 2009 M3 with EDC & Convenient Access. The dealer here in San Francisco is unable to answer my question as to how I can program in the EDC setting so that the car will start up in EDC 'Normal' mode. The way it is now, one key always starts up the car in 'soft' setting while the other will always start it in 'sport'. A small thing, but I have it in 'normal' 90% of the time and always have to switch manually. There should be a way to get it to start up in 'normal', I would think. Anybody know?
The second thing, the machanics at the dealer say it's important to put the key in the slot from time to time so as to communicate information from the cars computer to the key, but also to charge the battery. I was under the impression that the battery was not a rechargable one, but they said that's a mistake in the owners manual, and that indeed the remote contains a rechargable battery in addition to a regular one. Any answers? Thanks for the input. |

If you have comfort access, the battery can't be recharged. There's a small cover on the back that pops off for easy access.......Phil

It does charge the battery! I don't know how to prove it to you but just think of the mobile phones that charges over the pad that they sell nowadays! Can't think of the name. When I picked mine up, I was told the same thing to put it in the slot once in a while....

Exactly....this topic is old and exhausted by now. If you have CA you will soon find out that you need to change the battery. Explain why CA fobs have a battery door on the back and non-CA fobs don't.............Phil

Back on topic. The manual also claims that the EDC setting will be remembered after you switch off the car. That works for some people, but not for others - like you and me. Though in my case both keys default to soft. I intend to have my dealer fix it under warranty as the manual claims it to be a setting that is remembered. I bet that this is controlled by a computer setting that we have no access to, but the dealer does.
I may also spring for Bavarian Tech Tool and do it myself. Tomasz
