Shifting with the DSG tranny was smooth but heard a fart from the exhaust on every shift. Like the car needed to tell me it was powerful even though my as$ was pegged in the seat already. Same HP # as the G37x but tons more torque makes it a blast to drive over my wifes car(2010 G37x).

Servotronics or whatever Audi calls it at low speed was softer than a G37x making it easy but annoying to turn the wheel so many times to get into a parking spot.

Price also got me. I don't know about your local Audi dealers but mine wouldnt go lower than $54K on a nearly loaded premium s4 with dsg. When a fully loaded E90 M3(ZCP,ZCV,ZCW,ZP2,Moonroof,sat.,auto highs) with Euro delivery I'm getting for $61K and change.
Have noticed the farting sound as well, not sure why it does that. Seems like it does it when you shift at WOT. hopefully a new exhaust will help fix it.

Except a Porsche is not a premium VW. Yeah they may be owned by the same parent. Doesn't change the fact that an Audi is a premium VW, and a Porsche is a Porsche.

BMW has been independently owned and operated since 1916

Yep, they're all good looking VW's. So is Skoda.

I was told by the dealer that it's the noise the engine makes when the computer tries to make quick shifts, specifically that the engine retards a tiny degree causing a 'burp' as he said (I'm guessing opposed to the kick-in-the-pants jerk you feel with the DCT in S4/5 mode that's probably hard on the clutches long term). Might just be salesman BS, but if that's true, then a new exhaust might just make it louder.

I was seriously in love with the B7 S4's and when this B8 S4 came out I LOVED the way it looked and what kind of value it put on the table. The only thing that took me away from the car is the drive; I wish they kept the V8 in there. Don't get me wrong, power is awesome in the v6"t" but it just doesn't rumble and feel as raw as the v8.. It is all relative though and as long as you are happy with it that's all that matters.

I do have to say, the revised "dct" in this car has become REALLY REALLY good...

do all you guys who turn over a new car every year not pay sales tax or something? I can't imagine how you rationalize getting a different car so frequently if you do. enjoy the S4.

I have usually done a lease assumption when turning over cars quickly. I did buy the S4 though and plan to keep it long term. Even the lease assumption can be expensive when done early in the lease, but to the extent I've had to offer an incentive it's typically been to reduce the payment to what it would have been had I put any sort of downpayment on the lease.

As far as comparing both since I have both... I like the S4 as a daily driver but the M3 is by far a much better car and scissor like handling. The S4 has wayyyyy too much bodyroll in comparison to the M3.

If not comparing to the M3 I would have said its handling is amazing. The M3's handling is just THAT much better.
The S4 and S5 are both on the B8 Chassis and are the same with regards to engine placement etc. Anything that is in the S4 that is not in the S5 will filter down next model-year

The S4 and S5 are the same as E90 and E92....... Both B8 chassis just like the BMW's are both E9X chassis.

I think the Veyron and many of the Porsche models show that VAG has the technological ability to do anything they want. The sad thing is that with some of their models they miss the mark. We all have to realize that the B7 RS4 was partially responsible for BMW making the current M3 have the specs it has.

The S5 still does not have the V6 Supercharged engine and does not have the most important performance option.... sport Differential.

Believe it or not these are the 2 main reasons I picked the 2011 S4 over the S5. Also the fact invade an E92 M3 so didn't mind a 4 door.

The S5 Cab does have the V6T. It will catch up, I guess Audi had a production run of V8's to work through so the S5 coupe didn't get the V6T right out of the gate.

I was beating the snot out of the S4 on my test drive! It had been the most fun I had on a test drive; that is, until I drove the M3 2 weeks later.

Here is my 07 GTI (Hence my SN Black MK5)and it used to fart!

Lol my m5 with ASR exhasut has a different type of sound when shifting more like a loud pop, and when accelerating slowly and letting off the gas i get the farting noise, which by the way sounds bad arse from the outside.

The m3 is much faster than the s4 jus look at the facts.
