Thanks guys, really appreciate it. Dean, I am scratch building the body panels. Check out posts 351-67 below. I started on the body and decided I needed an anchor foundation, so stepped back and took the fall to build the chassis. Have a week vacation starting a week from today with a couple of buddies in the shop to get back on the body hard for ten 15-18 hour days!
As to the LS or 5.0, Dean is correct, so many have been done its more like assembling an erector set. At this point in my life, its more about putting my skills to the ultimate test and building what interests me. Will be working with KMS and Active Autowerkes on the S65 again to build my version of the ultimate driving machine. If I'm putting 4,000 hours into a project, it better make my heart throb, and like a choice of a sex partner, some just turn us on more than others. Most of all, although those motors are really good, and affordable, and anything related is available in 35 different shades in the aftermarket, they're never going to sound like a supercharged S65. EnderG60, just listen to this and I think you'll understand what turns me on! Active Autowerke | BMW M3 Supercharger level 3 Gen 2 E9X dyno - YouTube |

Fantastic. I just wanted to know your reasoning, but if its simply that it excites you thats enough for me. "Because I can" and "Why not?" would also have been acceptable

Took a week vacation (mostly, lots of conference call interuptions) in Wray's shop. With some great help from Mike and Ben (Ben did all the metal shaping on the Steampunk FFR '33 at his last job) who work in the shop got the chassis mostly welded up from the top and flipped Sunday for the bottom, the rear BMW 3.85 differential in with Steinjager bushings, started the superlegera structure for the skins and much fun and greatly appreciated the help overlapping vacations in the shop with current allmetalshaping forum metal shaper of the month Steve (Toreadorixit). Steve is a wizard of scanning and rhino and we got the rear upper control arm, toe and coilover mounts modeled and off for water jet cutting. Although I have some more development on the upper cage, triangulating the rear and a couple of more tubes up front, the plan is to put those bits aside for right now until there's further development on the shape and the engine is in for mock-up and then optimally squeeze it all in. Immediate plan is for the underside to get welded and then maybe a day to get it to roller stage and then move on to finish the superlegera structure.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Although life has somewhat interfered last few weeks with getting as much done as I'd like, been focused on getting the rear suspension mocked up and having a roller. Started on the passenger's side and required a lot more tweaking than I expected and still needs a bit more. Shop wheels sit idly by waiting. Hopefully next week! |

Project has been on hold last six weeks recovering from surgery, but gave me a good opportunity to read/plan more on things like setting the rack for correct ackerman angles. Back on it this weekend. Been dreading getting the lower back rail to define the rear fender line and rear of the body in and getting the two sides to match (tons of indexing). All told, from the front of one wheel arch to the other was four pieces. It's tacked to temporary cross bars until further panel development to confirm flow. Got it pretty close and an assist from Ben Starr yesterday to dial it in. Managed to get a couple more cross rails in too. Threw three of the roof panels on quick for a photo op as I was leaving the shop and give me a rough sense of proportion. Looking forward to getting back to shaping!!!

Magic, I guess I've been so focused on shaping body panels I hadn't realized I haven't been on this forum in a while. Plan is still an S65. Just finished a 150 hour project to shape the outer perimeter of the inner structure of the passenger door and have it swing properly. Working on driver's door now. Then, I'll be able to skin the two sides. Here's some pics of current state of project.

What an amazing build, I admire your dedication to this V2.0. I was heartbroken for you when your 33 burned. The body shaping your undertaking now is not something that you see documented anywhere else. Thank you for posting and keeping us updated. Any new developments? I'm sure it's much harder to get time to work on this now that it is in another state at someone's shop.
