Mistake buying Dinan Upgrades?

Hello all from So Cal-
This is my first post but I have been reading many posts here for some time. I just bought my first 2011 M3 E93 last week with mods already added. I drove a 2011 335i M Sport Coupe for the past 4 years and added Dinan stage III with all the extras to go with it for more HP and Tourge. When I went to an authorized BMW Dinan dealer they told me Stage 2 & Stage 3 software should give my 335i 73 added HP alone with added Torge. I should have thought about that for a minute but it sounded great. With all the upgrades which would be Enter cooler / Oil inner cooler, air intake, exhaust and Dinan software one would think you’re getting over 400 HP and maybe around 425 Torque or so. Well I found out you're not getting that power to the wheels. You’re only getting that power to the Flywheel / Crank. I just had 3 pulls at Stillen's in OC and was shocked at what they pulled. The HP and Torque to the wheel was a disappointment. Over $6k spent on upgrades my dyno was 302HP and 309 Torque. THAT’S IT!!!! I called another authorized Dinan shop (Bullet Performance) and they called Dinan for me to see if my VIN# was showing the upgrade and it was. The gentleman at Bullet Performance in OC was very helpful and had a lot of information for me. He said Danin's comment was from the Flywheel / Crank you can expect to lose 15 to 25% of power. I know I should have read the fine print but I just took the word of the man behind the counter at BMW. I shouldn't have dumped $ into my 335i thinking I was going to out run an M3 / M4 with my upgrades and save money instead of buying one. If you want power just go with the M3 / M4 and take that money and dump into that. I'm not here to start an argument just disappointed in my pulls and stats. I hope this helps someone if they are deciding to spend the $ on Dinan software and extras. Oh and I had all these mods done at an authorized Dinan shop which was BMW. That way the warranty was still good on the car. I don't mean offend or hurt feelings but when someone ask you what your HP is or Torque is you can respond by saying "From the engine or the Flywheel / Crank". Hope this helps someone who is looking to upgrade their BMW 335i. Now that I have owned both cars, I would take the M3 any day of the week. Attached are the Dyno pulls so you anyone can see what they really get to the wheels after paying for all the upgrades. My 335i Stage 3 is now for sale at Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel. Here is the link to see it. http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...58/overview/#1 Cheers from Orange County

I fully agree with you, Dinan is great when it comes to keeping your factory warranty while adding some performance upgrades, but all in all, it's not worth the money for the gains.

We have a dinan Stage 3 2012 550i at home. Estimated 500HP and 580TQ blah blah.. We also invested in a Dinan free flow exhaust.

Don't get me wrong the car is FAST FAST FAST.

The numbers however... Dissapointing... I'd give numbers but I don't have them in front of me and do not want to give numbers that are not 100% correct. I will post later when i get home.

I have a stock e92 m3. Just to give a comparrison. From 70-140MPH pull. It was NECK and NECK. Probably the best race i've ever been a part of or seen...

If ur rich and want to keep warranties do dinan. If u want power. Find another option. With the money u save. U can fix the car once it does break.

-Cheers

Depending what kind of dyno Stillen uses, that 300hp number sounds right. 300hp at the wheels is about 380hp at the flywheel. A stock 335i would probably put about 240hp on the same dyno.

The only way to measure the increase is to run a stock car and the modded car back to back on the same dyno.

I think Dinan's prices are pretty high for what you get but you got exactly what they advertised... they didn't say anything false about it.

Here is a video comparison of the Dinan tuned 335i vs the M3.

I don't see what the big deal is. Dinan is known for being conservative to maintain warranty, but the quality of their products is high.

Also, advertised HP/TQ gains by most every company I've ever seen are taken at ideal conditions, this is not just an issue with Dinan. Additionally, these advertised gains are typically at the crank unless WHP (wheel horsepower) is mentioned. Real world gains on the dyno are generally less than advertised.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm glad I bought the M3 just wish I would have investigated more. That is all my bad. I just hope this post can help others before they dump $ into a 335 thinking it will out perform the M3. Good thing about the 335i is I saved more in gas lol!
