Schroth Quick-Fit Pro: Some questions

This is the tech inspection form from my last event. Look under section Safety (no 4-point harnesses). I'm seeing this more and more, maybe this is that the track is dictating rather than clubs themselves, but lately I've had no luck with this harness system at VIR or Road Atlanta.

GRID TECH “DONE AT THE EVENT”
IMPORTANT: Please have your car unloaded and ready for the track before you enter the tech line. If your car has lug nuts other than
17mm, 19mm or 13/16", have the appropriate ½" drive socket with you.
[ ] Lug nuts: torque to manufacturers specifications, wheel locks removed, no lugs missing. Wheel Centerlocks fully engaged if applicable.
[ ] Gas cap: tight
[ ] Wheel bearings: tight
[ ] Brake lights: all working
[ ] Brake fluid: clean, full, cap tight

[ ] Front & rear glass: clean, no cracks, unobstructed. Condition does not impair vision.
[ ] Seat belts: driver & passenger OEM or acceptable aftermarket harnesses AND appropriate seats installed. Equal Restraints for both front seats.
[ ] All loose items removed from interior and trunk, glove box empty or locked
[ ] Special accessories (cameras, fire ext, etc...): securely mounted and tethered
[ ] Car numbers: on both sides of car in contrasting colors, at least 8" high
[ ] Soft Top cars: Broomstick rule, 2” clearance between helmet and protection plane
[ ] STICKER REQUIRED: Helmet, Snell: SA2005 and SA2010/SAH2010 only

Whomever put that in the checklist had good intentions, but is way out of touch with what a Schroth 4pt is designed to do in a crash. The Schroth sled test videos should be enough to convince any rational human being that it is safer than a 3pt OEM seatbelt. SMH...

I just confirmed that PCA SDR Zone8 chapter will be extending the waiver of 2014 into 2015 for Schroth ASM harnesses as long as your vehicle is below 200 performance points. OP, based on your mods you will probably be close to me at 125pp.

for cars with less than 200 Performance Points - APPROVED

Executive Summary:

This change would allow the use of Schroth ASM 4-point Harnesses
as an alternative to stock 3-point belts in cars that do not require 5-
or 6-point harnesses. The Schroth ASM 4-point belts are proven
devices that are approved for street use by the DOT.

I've got a pair of Schroth ASM 4 points (which have option for 5/6 point being added). They are very effective and serve the purpose I use them for.

If you are wearing just T shirt the harness is a bit rough on your shoulder. After my first track day without pads I immediately bough them. I do not miss harness grips.

Doesn't surprise me that a Porsche club is over-doing it. They want to be certain all of the old man members, driving their cars at 4/10ths, are safe and sound.

LOL although some PCA members say the same thing about BMW owners. I must say, the few PCA events I've been to, their cars were cleaner than mine.

Advanced group POC drivers are fast. Very. Fast. PCA is a different animal out west, but they still have skilled drivers.

In Texas, PCA has a much more robust program than BMWCCA.

The one thing about 911s in general is...they are usually driven kind of slow in the novice and intermediate run groups. And once they figure the car out, they run at the front in the advanced groups. So you might blow by 911s in a BMW early on but at the advanced levels...you shouldn't be blowing by any decently driven stock 911 on sticky tires.

One observation vis a vis speed on track -- there is a huge premium on hp. At my last track day in my admittedly under powered (240 hp) Z3, I was in an intermediate group running with a ZR1 and Z06 where they would utterly crush me on every straight and I'd close down and dog them in corners or tight sections. Back to the discussion, anyone with the ASM Schroth's should be able to upgrade to 5 or 6 points which is nice provided you put the hardware into your car but you'd need a dedicated race seat.

Yes, assuming that you use the OEM pyrotechnic seatbelt receptacle.
