I love how the American way to tackle obesity is to just make things bigger

if you grip the seat bolster with your left hand, and slide against the back of that hand as you get in the seat, you won't scrape the seat, whether you are obese, emaciated or "normal." simple, works great.

It's quite possible that you simply have larger hips/legs.

Incorrect. There are medical definitions for obesity based on your body mass index, which is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared.

A BMI of 30-35 is mild obesity
A BMI of 35-40 is moderate obesity
A BMI of above 40 is morbid obesity

One thing BMI does not account for is muscle mass, so if you happen to be extremely muscular, you may have a higher BMI and not be obese.

So...there is actually something as "too fat" and it has serious implications for your health. And it should bother you. The thing I find the most curious is when you have obese people that talk about the weight reduction of their cars with certain mods. Think about losing that extra 30lbs off your own body. Your "car" will be 30lbs lighter and you will have health benefits as a bonus !!
