255s max for front and 275 for the rear. I wouldn't go beyond OEM sizes for the 18s.

285/35/18 for the rears should be fine, I run that with Hankook RS3s for the track.

hmm.the only street tire I see that I can get a 255/40 18 in the front and a 285/35 18 in the rear are ps2's. I like em but was hoping to try something new. Any suggestions?

ya, they have pss's, or I just go with nt05's but 245 on the front. nt05's are quite a bit cheaper.

265/35 and 285/35 is a good combination, it's been done numerous times by other members on the forums.

I would not put 265/285 on the stock 8.5/9.5 inch wide wheels. I would put them on aftermarket 9.5/10.5 inch wide wheels like the Apex ARC8 that I am running.

Michelin says the 265/35/18 is recommended for a 9.0 to 10.5 inch wide wheel. The 285/35/18 is recommended for a 9.5 to 11.0 inch wide wheel. The fronts would be less than the minimum recommended wheel width; the rears would be at the minimum.

BMW chose wheel widths that were 1/2 inch wider than the minimum for the stock 245/265 tires on the 18 inch wheels, and 1 inch wider than the minimum for the stock tires on the performance ZCP 19 inch wheels.

Those recommended widths are just that - recommendations. If you're willing to live with the trade-offs of reduced steering response and slower transitions for aesthetics or increased heat tolerance and ultimate grip or availability or whatever, there's nothing wrong with running a tire that's wider than the recommendation, and it's also very tire dependent. Most tire company engineers will tell you (as some from Toyo, Hoosier, Michelin, BFG and Kumho have told me) that +- 1" beyond the recommended widths is perfectly safe and can be beneficial depending on what you're looking for

285 rears sound nice for 18's.

I have an extra set of 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 Michelin PSS.

What are everyone's thoughts on if I mount that on my OE 18s solely for street daily driving. I know it's a more drastic stagger and that the rear 275/35/18 has a smaller rolling diameter.

Would this effect DSC at all?
Would I experience any other potential problems?

Other than looking a little funny it's no different than running a square setup as far as DSC is concerned, the front/rear diameter is almost identical.

Your tire guy will probably hate you running extra wide rubber...the guy who has to eventually take them off.

With a good machine it's not that bad, the width isn't nearly as big a deal as how short the sidewall is, I wouldn't want to take a 285/30-18 off an 8.5" wheel without a helper but a 285/35-18 isn't too bad, and depends on the tire too. The old BFG R1's sold in the late 90's had SUPER stiff beads and from what I hear the new ones do too, so it's a bastard to get the bead seated and unseated

Thanks guys for the clarification. I ended up just throwing those staggered PSS' on the TE37s for my E46 M3 instead of the E90 M3.

I remember wider tires would be a pain to get both beads broken. You' break one, flip it over and then break the other...then the other bead would reseat.

Then the stiff sidewall is the icing on the cake. Unless the shop has a good machine with a good tech.

The really cool machines won't let the bottom beat reseat, it's neat, have to watch your fingers though

Widest isn't necessarily better though, for transitions and steering response. Ultimate grip on an autox or track, perhaps wider is better though.

245/255 front 265/275 rear with 40 profile or wider if you go thinner... I prefer the 40 series for our crappy roads though.
