2008 E93 Alarm Question
I've confirmed that with the technology package, the car is prewired for an alarm. DIY'r, I'm prepared to take-on the installation and then have the dealer "enable" the alarm.
Questions: Looking for a few comments on what the alarm provides: audible alarm light under the rear view mirror illuminates when armed activates the ultrasonic sensor for the interior other ? Trying to assess the need. Thx

what...
you will get the beeping sound when you lock and unlock... and the rear view mirror red light does light up... no other option... its just an alarm pretty much... avoids people from taking your wheels or something in your car...

I did install mine myself (took me 45 min). You will get the beep when you lock and unlock the car, flashing head and tail lights and the blinking light behind the mirror this is it.
The motion sensors (4) are not included and you will need to buy them and install one in each door. The activation was only one hour at the dealer although some dealers wanted to charge me 3-4 hours to activate... Quote:

I self installed the Z4M alarm kit and the dealer charged me 4250 to code and never got it the way I wanted (to beep on locking).
Also, I understand that BMW does not sell and interior motion sensor so if you have the top down and someone reaches in to steel something left behind, no alarm

I think he pressed 4 instead of $ which means $250.

Also, I have coded for an alarm retrofit before. Takes 30mins tops.

Only in the vert. I think the sedan and coupe just have the one overhead.

Okay, Gotcha. I was going to say...that seems a little overkill for the coupe.

Are you sure their is interior sensors in US Spec M3 convertible? Realoem only shows the hood alarm and the rear wheel siren. No sensors:

There is an ultrasonic sensor installed over head in the interior cabin. The alarm module and siren is an integrated unit located in the drivers rear fender liner at the top. The tilt sensor is built into the module/siren unit. In some slightly older modules there was a tilt sensor installed inside the right side trunk. And the final part of it is the hood switch although most cars already have it.
+ Coding of course to make it beep/flash, idrive menu's etc.. Edit: Not sure on the E93 other than the coding

So without the ultrasonic motion sensors, someone could break the window and the alarm would not go off? Does anyone have the part number for those sensors? I've already installed the siren/tilt sensor but haven't activated it yet. Cool thing is the light in the rear view mirror blinks now.

No ultrasonic sensor over-head for the E93's.
Just the hood-switch and siren/tilt-sensor combo unit. Without ordering from the factory... this DIY is the best way to add motion sensors to your E93: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117280 Cheers! |

Yea, it's really strange as you would think those two things would be standard on 'Verts and optional on E92s.
Not the other way around with no option. Definitely no glass monitor or motion sensor with the OEM Retrofit. From BMW Documentation: Quote:

There is "something" that triggers the alarm around the open perimeter: I had it locked and top-down the other day, was talking to someone, and I reached inside to point down at the EDC button -- and the alarm began tweeting (it's not a siren, more like a mewing sound of twelve cats in a blender)....did not touch anything. .

If it came from the factory, yes the car will have motion sensors. We are speaking to retrofitting the OEM add on kits in, which do not have the sensors. Last edited by Elliott@DetailAddict; 05-24-2012 at 02:06 PM.. |
