quick question about the jammer, I thought it worked as if a cop pulled his radar on you they basically get a reading of 00s? I had one awhile back and i was told by a cop buddy that he would get a few people with readings of 00s and he would def pull them over. But good write up with good info

Yep...the cop gets no reading at all. He thinks either I missed, the gun malfunctioned, or the guy had a jammer. That's why you want to turn it off quickly, so he will not get a reading. A laser jammer is totally illegal in some states, California, being one. In all states it's illegal to jam police laser, so you do take your chances. I'm in Oregon and when I travel to California, I will just turn it off.

So the sooner you can turn it off the better...or not speed at all. I was caught in a laser trap up in the state of Washington and I thought it was a cheap ticket....61 in a 55 passing an RV up a hill. Ever since that time, I've considered a jammer to even the odds.

Nice. I hope it works out for you without losing too much sensitivity. I'm like you in that I wouldn't want anything to be visible which is what has kept me from buying one to begin with. Looking forward to an update after you've got some hours using it.

That's what I'm hoping for. If it doesn't work out, it's easily reversible. We'll see how it goes. I was just in Hawaii for 5 weeks on vacation....love Oahu, but this time I was on the Big Island. Had a great time. You guys have a lovely state.

i think the placement isnt that big an issue...other members have done the behind the grills placement as well with good results... the one thing i would be concerned with is to make sure that the jammers are working everytime i start my car. opening the hood every single time would be a no-no for sure.

I've done the on/off thing now at least 50 times and it's always worked. I can do the test using my battery charger. When I turn on the battery charger, it senses the voltage increase and turns on. When I turn off the charger, it goes off. So far so good. It seems reliable enough but I'll check it weekly I think. I don't drive my M3 in bad weather (lots of it in Oregon) and so I keep a charger on the car in the garage. It'll get checked often enough. With the little remote, I've been able to turn the unit on at least 30' away, so the 3-4' it has to travel inside the car should be fine. It does have a little 12V battery to run the little key fob on/off unit, so I'll need to keep an eye on the range as it gets old. The kit came with 2 remotes so I carry the extra one in the trunk just in case.

it sounds like the cheetah is pretty reliable... it would be nice to have a wireless system like this without having to hack through the firewall... i like the idea a lot. i am actually thinking of getting laser interceptor... maybe i should look into the possibility of getting the cheetah to work with LI.

What is the difficulty of getting wiring through the firewall? Are there no existing available grommets to run wire through?

I docn't know what they do in California if you get caught....impound the car and force you to remove it?

As for going through the firewall, it looked pretty tight, especially with the telephone type plug ends. I suppose you could cut the plug ends off and then pass it through some hole, assuming you could find one. My goal was to not disturb the stuff under the dash or to remove any dash panels. I envisioned if I it that way, I'd end up with creaks and rattles and never be happy with the installation. I am happy with the installation and could remove the entire system in 30 minutes, with the hardest part being removing the front kidney grills, and leaving no holes in the dash or extra wires to the fuse box.

There's one on the pass side behind the glove box.

I've had an M-45 sitting in my room for over a year now. I'd still like to install it without the Cheetah, though. I'm curious as to where you drew power from and where you grounded it.

All my stuff is inside the cabin with the on/off switch and voice confirmation when it is on or off .

Let us know if they work. I only say this because they are relatively far from the lights which are a very big reflective target. Unfortunately our M3's were just not made w/ laser jammers in mind. Good Luck!

If you do get too much "punch through", try moving the blinders to a vertical position closer to the sides of the Kidney grilles. If that doesn't work, and you really need the jammers. Do this: install a front plate under the jammers. I know it will kill the looks, but the idea is to get the cop to move his aim from the vulnerable lights to the protected plate (preferred target for LIDAR).

It works perfect being positioned behind the grills. Already saved me a few times !
