Anybody else notice the warning on M3 World that 2007, 2008 and 2009 MY cars may need an "upgrade" of the rod bearings? (Actual verbiage: "Note 2007, 2008 and early 2009 S65 motors may require an upgrade of the rod bearings.")
In following the rod bearing threads, whether BMW "upgraded" the rod bearings has never been resolved afaik? Anyone have clarity on this? |

Mike, but why only those model years? Is there definitive proof that the bearings were "improved" or re-engineered? I ask because my car is a '13 and nowhere near that mileage and I am interested as to whether rod bearings are still a concern on the post-'10 cars; not questioning your guidance about the earlier model cars.

Meff, this wasn't a rod-bearing redux thread in the abstract. It was directly pertaining to the recommendation on M3World recommendation about rod bearing replacement for the INSTALLATION of the the Harrop kit. Thanks for playing though...

You didn't reference the fact that it was directly related to the install of the Harrop kit and I had not seen the M3 World article so did not piece the two together. I've seen far too many threads devolve in to rod bearing or oil related pissing matches completely detached from the original topic and did not want to see another. Hopefully when Harrop officially releases they will elaborate. ^^ and this was epic... |

Without taking this away from the topic, the recommendation to upgrade rod bearings in the 07,08,09 models is the stance taken by most SC Vendors, Gintani, VF and ESS all recommend rod bearing upgrades for forced induction as to Harrop Engineering. Extra torque with a positive displacement SC is a consideration also.

Car started and sounds awesome. There is a short vid of revving on our Instagram. Still a lot of things left to get the car road worthy but will finish it up tomorrow. Looking forward to it and will keep you guys updated. Thanks to Jonathan for helping with the installation.

Just a small update. Electronics wiring is completed and EPV is working properly. Cooling system is filled and primed. Now going to reassemble the car (bumper, liners, intake, strut bars, microfilter housings, etc..) and then this bad boy hits the street for the first time
