Custom 5000k Lux V3 Angel Eyes
I originally got the regular 6500k Lux V3s and I noticed that it had a distinctive blue tint to the light. It looked a bit aftermarket compared to the OEM Angel Eyes on the LCI cars and didn't match up with the HID headlights very good when it was on.
Lux suggested a custom V3 that would address this and use lower Kelvin colored LEDs. We settled on 5000K because it is less blue than the 6500K that come on the regular ones. These definitely do the trick. They match the HID headlights color much better and no blue color from the Angel Eyes - just pure white light. So if you want a more OEM look but love the intensity of the Lux V3 LED, here's an option to consider. I like it! Here are the units when they arrived today. Here they are on the car with a back to back comparison. Okay, some people wanted to see daylight shots of the 5000k Lux. I'll give you one better. I went to an autocross and a photographer took this picture of my car while I was lapping the track. Totally untouched photo in bright noon-time sun. You can definitely see the Lux 5000k. Do you think that those are very close to the OEM LCI Angel Eyes? Those new OEM LCI AE are pretty bright even on a direct sun light....

This is great! Thanks for sharing pics. I am close to pulling the trigger on a set of LUX, and the slightly cooler color temp was holding me back a bit.
If it matches the Xenons, then that is the color I'm looking for. As close to the OEM LCI 3-series as possible. I think I'll reach out to LUX about the 5K version. |

Can't stand blue tint on lights Reminds me of the ricers with their 8000k add on HID bulbs Did it cost any more than stock luxs?

OEM LCI design is a different bulb/lighting system than the non-LCI & ///M. Therefore, it's never going to be as good in sunlight or off-angle, unless you use the OSS solution, which is surface mounted LEDs.

As for matching the HID - both 6500k and 5000k doesn't match it in color. All factory HID headlights have 4300K light, it just takes on a blue/purple color when you look at it from an angle because of the projector cut off edges. You can see in the pictures that the 6500K looks more blue than the HID headlights. The effect makes the HID look like halogen headlights and the halos look aftermarket since no cars come factory with LEDs that are more blue than the headlights. During the day, the 6500k looks good - it's just with the HID on, the halos look aftermarket. The 6500k definitely has more of a "wow" factor as it looks very distinctive and stands out if that is what you are going for. With the 5000K, the halo rings have a white color with no blue so in comparison the rings looks more white compared to the blue-by-comparison HID. So HID looks like HID and the halos look OEM. It doesn't match the HID because the halos lack the intensity that the LCI has in terms of brightness. IMHO, it is a better match for the HID and doesn't stand out if you're looking for that. Here's where you can see it in the pictures. Halos have blue and in comparison, HID looks white: Halos are white and in comparison, HID looks blue: Last edited by Z K; 10-30-2011 at 01:59 AM.. |

Are the 5000k LEDs less bright than the 6500k LEDs?
I'd prefer a more pure white look. I just bought the 6500k kit and installed them on my car yesterday, and now this thread pops up |

A group buy could yield us a discount. I think the 6500's are going for $245 plus shipping. Also, the 5k's would be special production I think.......Lux doesn't want to have to produce these as a one off all the time (at least that's my guess)......Phil
