I have to say this is such a great example of why online car communities are invaluable. I had a cashiers check, a clear carfax, maintenance reports, and an OCD seller in hand and a pickup scheduled for Thursday, and last night I thought "what the hell, why not" and had an autocheck report run. From my research I learned that Autocheck has an exclusive data source for auctions. Many cars that are lease turn-ins or trades end up being auctioned between dealers and carfax does not always get all of the details related to the auction. Furthermore, accidents can be repaired without being reported to insurance and so can go undetected on carfax. This explains why the car I was about to buy had a clean title and no accidents reported, but structural damage reported.

I will never buy a car again without having a carfax AND an autocheck report; and we have an awesome resource right here to make that a simple and quick process.
