The tree is down

http://us4.campaign-archive1.com/?u=...e&e=0cccc35239

I have never been at VIR, but i have seen lots of videos. There is no discussion about that track without mentioning the oak tree. Well, looks like that tree is dead . See the link above

OOPS. Wrong link. Iwill try again

I am sure that there is going to be a long list of carved mementos to be crafted from the wood.

Happy to see that I get a specific mention in the write-up..."as well as a host of race drivers from the brilliant to the not so."!

I've been to the track many times and never get tired of looking at that beautiful Oak when approaching the turn (remember eyes up). I hope they are able to replace it with a mature Oak for the beginning of a new era.

No f'ing way?! I've had 2 different cars on that track. Amazing course. There's a reason why C&D does their Lightning Lap there! Won't be the same without it.

It's going to be weird going into that turn with no tree, with bright sun it may seem like I am going to hit the cornerworker

Was there this weekend for a DE. My instructor was telling me about one time when he hit the corner worker stand trying to get as close to the oak as he could.

I'm speculating as to cause but they had some really heavy weather a couple times last week and the ground was really saturated. Some times, when a big tree's root system has gotten borderline due to age, that's all it takes to tip it over.

First time on the track I accelerated too early coming off the exit of that turn and went off the track on the left! More embarrassing than anything else.

Estimates are a tree that big should have been well over 200 years old

Will be a while before there's shade at Oak Tree again

They could honor it by building it into a corner worker stand.

It just got to big? Looks HUGE on this pics. Like some CGI tree in some movie.

Sad to see the tree has fallen. I will be there for an HPDE tomorrow and will get some pics of the now oak tree-less oak tree corner.

I've never been to VIR but I do understand the importance of the quirky things. So I guess the corner worker better have their eyes wide open since the tree is gone.

And please do report if someone mows down the Honey Bucket!

I'm certain that they'll plant another grand tree in its place--probably a mature one.

Went to VIR today for HPDE with Rezoom Motorsports. Had to leave at 2:30pm cause i was pretty much to the backing plates on my front pads which kinda sucked, but other than that it was a good day. Here's a couple pics i took of where the oak tree used to be. Looks very different over there.
