I imagine this is exactly what BMW was trying to avoid by holding out the release of the vert and M-DCT till March.
However, I am glad the story broke. It gives people the opportunity to really get what they want instead of missing it by one month.

My dealer is trying to gather more info, but it sounds like convert in March and DCT in sedan and coupe simultaneously!!!

Nothing based around complicated software works perfectly the first time around. The software will be constantly updated as faults come to light.

Buying 12 to 18 months after the first MDCT models are sold is a good idea - unless you're willing to put up with taking your car back to the dealer to have the updates installed a few times in the first year or so. Only very small chance that this won't be the case and they get it right from the first model sold.

You multiply the final drive by the gear ratio - the lower this number is, the lower the engine revs at any given road speed.

Comparing the 6th gear in the manual M3 = 3.846 x 0.872 = 3.354
vs.
7th gear in the MDCT = 3.154 x 1.000 = 3.154

As 3.154 is lower than 3.354 - so the engine will be reving lower in the rev range at any given speed in an M3 holding 7th gear with the MDCT than it would holding 6th in an M3 with a manual transmission.

It's the press release which is in the PDF on the very first post of this thread. Is it really that difficult for people not to repost everything about 10 times.

I like the idea of the DCT, but not quite sure yet.
I don't want to end up regretting not getting the manual.

Perhaps the Chicago Auto Show will have the SSII from Detroit...
Really rather see the IB.

I will be test-driving the DCT at the earliest opportunity. Every new piece of news makes it seem more tempting. I will switch if I prefer it.

Yeah, I live on the South side, but have found the North dealership to be the better of the two.

The DCT may be available in the coupe in March. However, it won't be available in the sedan until June. That's what my CA called me back yesterday. They will have 2 cars for demo in the last week of March, probably only MT, not DCT. For $2700, the DCT is expensive but worth it.

I'm still ordering the M DCT. In the US, the 6-speed manual will always be faster because BMW will never give us LC on the M DCT. We are just too immature.

By faster you mean a better launch in 1st.

From a roll DCT will win every time.

I heard the same. I am going to wait it out for the sedan with DCT.
