No way. I had a supercharged '06 GT before I got my M3.
Next question...

True enough. Even family cars are dippipng into the low 5 sec range for 0-60 these days. Soon they'll be hitting the 4s I am sure.
The Mustang has some other things going for it too though, such as: - Can hold its own on a road course too - Has a tasty 5L V8 - Is a fairly attractive car - Has an insane aftermarket portfolio offering very cheap power - Can get you laid real quick at the trailer park or local dive bar LOL J/K |

I hate retro crap (don't know which I despise more, Mustang or Camaro), and I'd NEVER buy a Mustang even if I couldn't afford an M3, but I have to say at least Ford upped the ante with their DOHC, 32V 5.0L V8. Still intact are the live-axle, cheesy/cheap interior, and driving dynamics commensurate with the price. The GT is the same as it has always been IMO: A fast car in a straight line that drives and feels cheap, because it is .
I honestly think if both the Mustang and Camaro had moved on from the 60s, with modern interiors and more aesthetically pleasing styling, a lot more people might consider them. People who just want a powerful V8 car with a modern drivetrain, and who'd never appreciate what an M3 has to offer over a Mustang. But right now, anybody appreciating a modern interior is not going to stomach the cheesiness of a Mustang or a Camaro. That's great news for Chevy, since the Corvette keeps being the cheapest car to fill in that slot. It has a rent-car interior, but at least it's not retro. A modern '11 GT would eat into Vette sales big time IMO, but we'll never know until it bursts out of the 60s bubble. Good day gang. |

I think the sad thing about this comparison is that the M3 has gotten so far from its roots that their even comparable! How the heck is a Mustang less lbs than an M3? That is f*in sad!

Woah, 100+ HP / ltr vs 80ish? A BMW 5 liter (granted the v-10, but still an important point) makes 500+ not barely 400

Check it out (these are street cars bought at regular dealerships, modified for racing):
Mustangs 1st and second M3s 3rd through 6th Mustang 7th Then come the 911s, Camaros, Subarus, etc I watched the race today. Mustangs led all the way. They were reliable, very good in the corners, and had the edge on the 2 straights with better acceleration, surprisingly matched by better fuel economy resulting in fewer stops.
