Exhaust Mod Finally Done!!!! PICS AND VID!
After getting everything damn near perfect to how I want it, my exhaust mod is done. The original post can be found here... ANOTHER EXHAUST MOD!!!
Check that out if you are unfamiliar with the process and the extent I went to with this project. I got is back from the powder coat shop after the muffler was coated with Turbo-X 2000 matte black coating. The stuff is amazing! Looks great of course but you can literally put your hand on the muffler after driving the car for a hour. Crazy! The pipes themselves I opted not to have coated because I wanted to use header wrap. I had previous experience with stuff from Heat Shield Products and i wanted something that looked good, was durable, and did a good job of reducing radiated heat in order to keep the CV boots and running gear free from the exhaust heat. I went with Heat Shield Products Lava header wrap. Very simple to install, looks amazing, affordable, and does a great job of reducing the radiated heat. So now for the important stuff, the sound and looks. Simply put, it sounds amazing. In the 6 months I have had my car, I have tried out 4 different exhaust systems, none of which produced the tone or had the qualities I was looking for. This setup is mellow when you want it to be, but definately has authority when you want it to. As far as volume goes, it is a bit less than the remus race, especially around cruising speeds. Up top it literally screams, significantly louder than the AP exhaust. It has a very, very clean and exotic tone to it. I get that compliment frequently now. The best part, it fits absolutely perfect, tips line up 100%, tubes line up 100%, all good! And as I mentioned before no drone whatsoever. Overall I had about 4-5 hours in the muffler modification, close to 8 hours in replacing the pipe section, half hour to wrap the pipes and here is a breakdown of the costs and materials... -9 feet of 316 ss tube - $100 (benefit of working in the industry, cheap material) - Two 180 degree 2.5" OD U-Bends - 60$ - Welding - Did it myself - Free - Cermaic Turbo-x coat - $100 - Heat Shield Products Lava header Wrap - $60 -Eight SS Hose clamps to secure the wrap - $16 - New SS rivets to re-install the tips - $6 Overall as you can see, very little $$$ involved and the result is more that I bargained for. I would highly recommend this modification to anyone. If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to PM, glad to help out any way possible! Here is really $hitty video I took, a better one coming this weekend. Congrats Solcal. Sorry I kept pestering you but really wanted to see how this turned out. Both you and Periokid have inspired me to do something similar.
I may stick to just the box modification and not cut the pipes but cover them as Perio did. S99ANE

Agency Power - The best by far of the exhausts I tried. Little to no drone, nice tone, loud when you wanted it to be, light as hell! Magnaflow - Just a monster!!! Agressive and loud all over the RPM range, some drone at freeway speed. A bit too "muscle car-ish" Corsa UUC - Had it for about a week after a friend sold his car and let me borrow it to see if I wanted it. Liked it, little to no drone, a bit on the quiet side. Good tone though but not as "exotic" as the AP. Just my opinion. It was cool that I was able to test out all these exhausts. I purchased all of them used from board members and ebay with the exception of the Corsa. I was able to sell them back for what I paid in most cases and only took a small hit one one. Too much time spent under that car, I can literally do an exhaust swap in the dark! Literally! Peac! I got a better vid camera to take a better video this weekend, that crappy little video I posted doesnt do the sound justice |

Do it!!!! You will love it. In the end, the pipe replacement was the most time consuming and aggrevating part of all of this, I had to do a lot of the fitment and welding under the car |

Wow, great work. Really nicely thought out on the tubing, coating, wrap, etc.
I am local here in San Diego. I would be happy to either swap my stock system for yours in order for you to get a dyno done or to simply loan you my stock one. Any chance you would consider doing this mod to my exhaust? If so what price would you be looking to get? Feel free to PM me as well. Either way I would love to hear your system in person.

Came out awesome! Any chance you have some extra Rivets you want to throw in the mail? Ha! Seriously though, where did you get the rivets, I have seen some posts from $30 for them or more. You got them for $6? Also did you just have a rivet gun, or did you buy one? Most hot rod shops have one, right?
Again, looks very sweet! We need some better pics of the car so we can see those tips from different angles! D |
