Nope. Think about it for a second. The xenon bulb is about 8" away from the plastic headlight cover, behind a couple of lenses and encased in reflectors. That'd be like hosing your roof down to put out a fire inside your oven. There are heat sinks and vents back there in the guts of the headlight assembly to deal with the heat from the arc in the bulb.

Not to mention visible light bouncing off an opaque surface generates oh give or take a zero....about zero heat at least in the orders of magnitude we are talking about

Also reports of xenon headlight fires in cars without the cold weather package are awfully rare...lol

Headlight washers are a requirement under EEC regulations for cars fitted with Xenon bulbs...I guessed it was a heat thing but apparently its to stop glare caused by a dirty lens.

Wait, we are going in circles here...some claim Bluetooth readers don't work, some do. Some claim wifi readers don't work, some do.

As I understand it iPhones work with WiFi and Android works with BT. While you can code with an iPhone and WiFi (I've done it) you cannot log info. If you want to log use Android and BT OBD connector.

More info here from the developer:

Coding with engine running

I think my coding issue had to do with power fluctuating, so I've done my coding with the engine running. Just to double-check if this is OK...

Asked the vendor: Do you know if there is an issue coding while the engine is running? As always, it's code at your own risk, just wondering if you know of a known issue.

Response: no, I have not yet heard of anything – I think it’s because our codings do not really have anything to do with the engine or any critical depending system thereof

Kind regards

Parvis

Which dongle are you using with the app? I purchased the ELM327 Wifi OBD2 dongle and I have the app on my iPhone 5. It says I can't code over Wifi and need to use a USB-OBD2 connection through an Android phone. Diagnostics works fine however. I'm also on a BMW battery tender. Is the dongle incapable of coding?

Edit: I got it to work! For some reason, I had to have the car on with the engine running for it to work. Update EDIT: You don't need the car running for it to work. The first time I needed the car running for some odd reason. Now it works with the car on ignition 2 without starting the engine. sorry to lead people astray

I bought the WiFi OBD adaptor that ivini-apps sells - took about 7 days to get here from Germany. Works well.

The original owner of the car custom ordered my E92. He opted for heated seats, but not the entire cold weather package, so my car does not have headlight washers (which is a plus). Besides, the lens is no warmer than my E46 with halogens.

Anyway, this is a very cool product. I'd really like to be see the app being able to reset battery, but something tells me this is not coming. I know BavTech doesn't support it, and they said they don't plan on releasing that feature which is a shame.

respectfully, in very limited use I've had no issue as long as the vehicle is "on"
Furthermore the one the developer recommends/sells looks identical. Unless they're radically different on the inside...could be.

.
If you buy a car in the EU with Xenon headlight bulbs it must be fitted with headlight lens washers. Seems like other markets have their own regulations.

I was told it was a heat issue by someone - my mistake in taking him at his word rather than checking for myself.

It's required in other countries, not the USA. Has to do with dirty lenses causing glare.

No worries. I'm thrilled I have the correct and most reliable one. Also thrilled the developer is adding more stuff consistently.

Does the one in post #25 work? That's the one I got but haven't tried out. Luckily did it via amazon, so easy to return.
