Lucky! Good luck. The temptation will be there but it's so much more satisfying to prove to the nay-sayers who think a 16 years old can't restrain himself.

I didn't get a car til I was 18, it was a four cylinder Accord (VTEC yo!) but if I had something fast I know I would have killed myself. 10 years later I finally got an M3, and I'm not insane like I was back then but it's haaaaaard not to get on the throttle. You can be going 70 on the freeway, downshift and punch it to pass someone and then you look down and you're going 110. Everyday I say to myself okay I'm gonna take it easy today and just cruise. Then I get in my car and I'm flying all over the place with the engine screaming and a wicked grin from ear to ear. In i-drive you can set a chime to go off whenever you pass a certain speed. This might be a good idea for a while?

Anyway drive safely! Friends are really the most dangerous thing about having a car like this... they will want you to race everything from minivans to helicopters.

Tip of the day - don't slam your brakes with someone behind you, you will get hit. This is true pretty often actually, but moreso in an M3.

Sick birthday gift. Just make sure you don't drive like a tool on the roads.

Your parents are idiots. I looked at a 16 year old kid dead in a coffin just 2 months after his parents surprised him with one of those super fast Suburu's for his 16th. He flipped it and died just a half mile from his high school.

No 16 year old should drive any car like an M3. If I'm unpopular for saying so, so be it.

Watch out with the tires - even in cold but dry weather. You can be confident one minute and totally surprised the next.

An M3 is wayyyyy too much car for an inexperienced driver...thats the bottom line. Please be careful and don't abuse the power or it'll bite you in the ass!

+1 on the M Driving school. It's a wise choice and it'll probably help you appreciate more of what that car can do. And when you appreciate what the car can do, you have respect for it. You must respect M-cars or they will bite.

Also, you're probably going to need a bat to keep women from climbing in/on your car.

Congrats on your car man. And just to let you know everyone at age 16 believed they were "responsible." You are 16 and no one can justify responsibility at that age... Sorry but it is the truth.

And at age 16 with ur first car and just getting ur license you will get curious with this 415hp vehicle... Hopefully when you get curious you won't get hurt. I seriously hope you don't. And don't take off DSC unless you are at the track.

But, hey you don't have to listen to me I am not your parents.

Congrats, I remember my first car back when I was 16, it was a Ford F100 Pickup and THANK GOD it didn´t go over 100mph no matter what I did!! Also did 0 to 60mph in about 12 seconds. lol! Safe car for sure for a 16 year old. You will find yourself pushing the limits of that M car on public road ways in now time, if anything to show how fast and furious the M is!

Nice Ride man,

first ride was a pt cruiser @ 16... my grandma gave me. then before graduating high school my dad got me a 650i convert, which I really appreciated. I sold it at 20 and bought a 335i and using the rest of the money towards college/living expenses. Just don't go crazy with the M.. because I know when I was 16 Id be smashing at every street corner and lights, its just a teenagers nature, so be careful like everyone says.

even i am 16 and i agree with your post, first of all i know my parents won't get me an M car because we are not that rich and 2nd of all i don't want it, because i know i can't handle that much power and have no experience whatsoever behind a wheel (well i drive but not enough to handle that car) and 3rd of all people who drive 335i's and nicely tuned 330i's in my school tell me that i shouldn't get a BMW as my first car because they SPEEED a lot and can't even feel they are going that fast and they also say that I DON"T NEEEED IT. as long as a car gets you from A to B safely then you should be alright and after 2-3 years behind that car save up some money and then you will be ready for a fast car.
