M-DCT / M-DKG poll - your thoughts after the new information

Devo suggested the idea for an updated M-DCT (M-DKG) poll.

After the updates we have on M-DCT function, performance and pricing what you are your thoughts on it.

I voted the above; but if it is as good as I think it will be, than I will order the M-DCT.

To be honest; I would be disapointed if it isn`t that good

I voted, hopeful but now very excited. I believe that this will be a phenomenal transmission and it's priced right. I do love manuals though.

Thanks.

I always knew it would be phenomenal. I just wasn't sure if I could wait until 2009 for it. Now I know I don't have to. Personally I think the M3 with M-DCT is going to be a car to be totally respected on the road or on a track.

Does that mean you'll pass on the car that is being built for you?

M-DCT?

If my build date was later (currently Week 6) I would consider this, but I don't want a 2-month minimum delay in getting my car. I think the attractiveness for me is more about having the latest thing than actual function. It would be nice to have the Auto mode for my wife; she can drive a stick fine, but prefers less-involved driving!

It had better not do the herky-jerkies like SMGII can. That being said, I am so looking forward to it. Faster and better gas mileage? That's a them I want continued in the next-gen M3.

I am not going to repeat the mistake of my previous M3 with SMG.The car was great on track, but in all round use it was not a great experiance to drive.I just got rid of a GTI with the DSG and it was just the reverse, great on the street but crap on track. It upshifted by itself before redline, downshifted on its own when trying to contol wheelspin exiting corners and would delay downshifts when you actually needed a lower gear.I would have been quicker in a normal 6 speed car as I would have been able to utilize the great midrange torque that that engine had.
I will drive one and if I am sold on it,I will order a newcar and unload my 6 speed one.The one thing the DCT will allow is that my wife could drive it,so maybe the 6 speed will be fine afterall

I'l be the dick: to even insinuate or hint that this M-DCT is going to be anything like the GTI DSG is like comparing apples to Doritos.

You missed my point that I want to drive the M-DCT before commiting to it.I have a 6 speed that is the country and as we do not know the pricing of the M-DCT yet in Canada, much less the pricing on the car.The SMG was $4900 on my 2002 and the direct euro to CDN conversion on the M-DCT is about $5900,there is no panic to have one on my part.On my 02 the extra cost of option was not realized in the market when I sold it 2 years later.I will drive my incoming 08 and see what happens.
I am pretty sure that the M-DCT will be great, but I will do my due diligence before actually having one.I do feel that BMW's development will be much better than than VW/Audi has ever done on their DSG and hopefully my concerns will be a non-issue.

To summarize 80% of the responses strongly favor M-DCT, responses 1, 2 and 4.

Maybe you need another line in there just to see how many that are vote for the M-DGK box are previous SMG owners. If you have lived with it then this well be a revelation, I wish I could have voted more than once as I would have ticked the top box as well.

I'm curious what the results would be if we had only two choices: manual and M-DCT.

I think the M-DCT transmission is a phenomenal selling point for the M3. I've heard rumors that AMG will offer one soon as well.

The thing is the last gen SMG that was in the E46 was great. Having been in a E46 CS with SMG, I was very impressed and we all know that works great in the CSL. The MDCT was and is only going to be better. I convinced of this fact....

Every major manufacturer will have them in < 2 years. They will replace most automatics and many manuals.

i work on benzes at a dealer and we havent heard any mention at all of a new tranny of any sort. they train us on new things very well in advance, so i wouldnt hold your breath on a dual clutch benz...but who knows.

id rather have the 6 speed...sure, its not as fast, but its definitely funner. if i were in the market for the fastest car out there, i wouldnt be getting an m3...its a car that i would drive to enjoy myself with.

even the clk63 black series gets boring after a while with its paddle shifters...

cheers.

edit: wheres the poll choice for those of us who were considering dkg but decided against it??
