FRONT BRAKEs.. pads with still over 80% after 50+k
Hello All, so my maintenance minder shows up and says front brakes need maintenance.
then i took a good look and my front brakes still have 80%+ on the pads. WTF... why is is showing up already if i have that much left... about 3-4 months ago my car was in service due to this issue. but the dealer said that no need to replace it cause you have about 90% thread left... then he says... "do you use brake" cause for 50k miles on the car thats a lot left... " The brake was never replaced once in owning the car... also my rear has about 50% left. am i missing something not sure if i should just reset the minder which is pretty easy to do. i can take a shot at lunch time and post it here... not sure why i have so much front brake pads left after 50+k miles on the car.. oh one more thing... car is out of warranty. so i do everything myself. at 50k i have done all the maintenance required. well the maintenance that shows up anyways.

Did the dealer suggest that you change the sensor? If not I would look there first........Phil

The pads and the sensor are fine. The Condition Based Service computer "guesses" when your brakes will need service based on your driving. It's guessing you need service now, so the light's on.
You can get it reset by a dealer or I believe there is a way to do it from the driver's seat, but I'm not sure how. |

something is wrong, if both front and rear pads have never beend changed, there is no possible way the rear would wear down more.. as apposed to the front.
So either the dealer doesn't know how to check pad depth, or the other two options above.. |

the front is so damn thick... almost new compare to my spare new pads... but the rear is about 50%... ill check the paperworks tonight they might have replaced it the last time the car was in serviced. but from what i remember they did not do anything and the only thing was they cleaned the sensor...

- that your the original owner since >100 miles? - have not changed front pads since new? - and have 80% left according to mm measurement? If all the above is true, it's time for a Corolla, cause your not "using" this car for it's intended purpose |

I needed new pads at around 6k miles lol
and now I'm at 12k and the service light for new front pads is on..and it's pretty annoying.... I've heard that the stock m3 brakes can last 75k miles on the street if driven like a baby..
