performance M3>135i>335i
bargain 135i>335i>M3 Modding 135i>335i>M3 The M3 is better than the 135i.. Does the price of the M3 justify how much better it is than the 135i... Nope I rather purchase 2 135i vs 1 M3 IMO

lol...that is exactly why so many 335/135 owners dumped their x35 for M3s the first chance they got after driving an M3...i know distinctly 20 something of them...
every 335 owner who cannot afford or is not feasible financially to buy an M3 says the "grapes are sour"...ROFL!! |

Modding M3>x35 - it has more displacement so it will always have more modding potential. M3 + Supercharger will beat any modded x35i - unless the x35i gets big aftermarket turbos which result in a narrow power band and big turbo lag...but then you just turn up the wick on the supercharger in the M3...

A supercharged M3 is great but I'd rather a x35i with larger turbos.
I love atmo cars with great top ends and the M3 rocks but if you are after massive power modding a factory turbo car is much more sensible... Leave the M3 atmo as the factory intended.... PS Seen the vids of the Supercharged M3 (rocks!) and look forward to seeing it race the APS(?) 135i when it all set up. |

i disagree. I pick quality over quantity. It's like having sex with two (or dozen) ugly chicks vs having sex with one really hot chick. which one do you pick?

Using CarTest simulation software, I found that to match an E92 M3 DCT down the quarter mile, a 135i manual needs about 385HP/400lbft. So Dinan S2 should beat stock M3.
To match a modded E92 M3 DCT that has 456HP/332lbft, a 135i manual needs about 440HP/430lbft...pretty difficult to achieve 440HP on stock turbos reliably from a 135i/335i |

I drove the M3 extensively before I made my decision. The M3 is really just an awesome machine, I fell in love and really tried to convince myself that my budget could handle it. The sound haunted me a night when I went to sleep, it was almost like crack.
I was actually rationalizing ways in my mind to be able to finance this car. In the end I could not make the numbers work for me and my family (daughter + wife > then luxury car). That is when I got into the 135. This car is not an M3 but it is no joke. This thing means business when it wants to, it puts the 335 to shame in performance and appearance and it is just pure fun to drive. Nimble, agressive and has no natural competitors. The car is flat out unique. If I could afford the M3 then yes it would be in my garage, lets face it, it is the better vehicle hands down. That being said the 135 is an awesome driving machine. For those you that think this is some entry level sales tactic you could not be more wrong. This car is pure performance full stop. I will however leave you with this one last thought (sorry, I could not resist)

135i and M3
I have the 135i because bmw will not special order leatherette, I don't buy leather for animal reason for the people that wonder. The 135i convertable is so fun to drive and I am not sure what everyone is talking about, it is mean. It drives like a dream. But, it is true there is something about that M. My point is don't be a snob to the 135i. Open the roof on a nice day and drive away you will know. But I would still buy the M if BMW will give me the option.

I think that both cars are great... BMW doesn't half ass any car that they make, naturally If I could afford an M3 I would purchase one over a 135i. Owning the 135i is great and tons of power. Sure you can add a few more HP tuning with another manufacturer but why take the risk? My stage 2 Dinan is really quick, does it handle like the M3 would? Of course not, but at the price and the options that I have it's great. I don't think it's a girl car by any means, perhaps the convertible looks like one but not the coupe. Especially after you add on some of the sportier carbon fiber options. Also to this day the 135i can be a true sleeper, not a lot of people know about it.
Bottom line, whatever you buy just make sure it's a BMW... |

OP, if you get the 135, you will be wanting for more 3 months later. I did on the 335, and I started with the Dinan flash. Pulls great.... handling is too sloppy, so then I did the Stage 3 suspension. Now it rides really rough. If the 135 is your choice, I would get the 335 for looks and bigger back seat. If Daily driving is what you want, the chipped 135 with some mods in the front end - M3 control arms/M3 tension rods, spacers will take some of the god awful understeer out without changing the springs and wrecking your ride for the family. This is would be a cheap, fun and great. That said, you will NOT get the power down without the LSD. The other day, I was on the highway at 120 kms/hr and changed lanes and stomped on it in 3rd... the traction control light came on because I turned the wheel to change lanes. The traction control light comes on so often ... the 135 I think is worse than the 335 for this.... but I am not 100% sure on that. For the M3, you have to drive it differently and rev it, and push the gas pedal down to the floor.... if this is your driving style, then great. The 135/335 you don't need to do that, you want power in a subdivision at 2500 rpm, you give it some gas and you rip..... without winding it right out. I do this day in and day out... .2.5k to 5k and not really drawing that much attention to yourself. Plus if I was winding the car out to red line all the time I wanted to, my wife would give me "that look"... the one that says, "wtf are you doing....." with the 335 I don't really get that. What I am saying is... pick your driving style and pick your car. If you can afford the M3.... do it man. I have $2k in for Dinan Stage 2, 6K in for stage 3 suspension, I probably have another 5k in for the LSD and subframe bushings... that is just to get the handling and traction I wanted. I really want to get more rubber in the front, and more power... that is like another 10k. or... you could just get an M3 out of the gate, do nothing to it, have more room for the family and drive the best car around, and have the gorgeous body, and interior that goes with it ..... but you pay..... Whatcha gonna do?

I would like to caution this comment. I feel like people discount the 135i a little too much sometimes. I have tracked a 135i with stage 2 dinan and the M package, it is definitely nothing too discount! It is a faster car than the M3 and if you are willing to invest in some decent rubber and perhaps some suspension upgrades than it will be faster around the track too. I have spent several full weekends running this 135i against a half dozen or more 08-09 M3's, and I always out pull them on the straights and I'm quicker through the tighter portion of the tracks as well. Not sure if you are familiar with Mosport in Ontario, but on the back straight this 135i hits 146mph and we turned 1:41 lap times......and we were running it on the stock 215 run flats that weekend. This is a very, very capable track car. If gutted, properly tuned, and properly tired, this is one machine not to mess with. I made several M3 owners face their doubts at the track, the 135i is very fast!

Please just get a JB4 instead of the expensive Dinan . If a JB3 ($379) 335i can do this with Meth Injection ($300), think what a 135i or 1M can do.
Drag/street races = N54 Track races = S65 simple as that. |
