Does the sedan feel noticeably better than the coupe? I've read that in a few places on this forum. I would have no intentions of tracking the car, just normal driving and some fun occasionally. I've driven the e92 but never the e90.

I honestly think both look good but being young and having no wifey and kids yet I feel like the coupe may be the way to go.

In no particular order:
1. EDC suspension. It can be tighter than the 335i when you want to go fast, or more comfortable when you want that.

2. Traction out of the corners, courtesy of the limited slip and suspension setup.

3. Wet weather performance (as in astounding).

4. Engine response and sound.

Many thanks, how would you compare the steering and also does the M 'feel' that much quicker than the 335 ?(seat of the pants)

I think it feels more sturdy, feels like more of one solid piece of metal. The extra doors don't have to be related to having a family and kids. Just makes everyday life easier, putting more people in the car, not having to adjust the front seat back and forth to put things in the back, having extra windows on the side for better visibility, having solid doors around the windows instead of the open glass connecting to the rubber strip above the door. Smaller/lighter doors to open.

I've driven both and I just love the utility of the sedan if I need it. I don't like my E46 as my everyday car, the sedan just has soo many more pluses. IMO

I'm getting the E90 because of more utility, I like the looks better and it has the same performance as the coupe.

I have the E92 but would be just as happy with the sedan. I've driven the sedan and except for (maybe) feeling like you sit a bit higher in the sedan, they drive exactly the same as far as I can tell.

Cheers.

Love my sedan. Hopefully, BMW is reading these articles and possibly considering making a sedan in the new version--even low production!

20 years from now, and untill the day I die I will drive a petrol car. Id pay as much as they ask me to for premium petrol. If its outlawed in the states ill move back to Trinidad and import an E90 M3 i will, if not, i have my E90 320i here already which will remain in prsitine condition. BMW will most likely have an automated system in their uplink servers to always be able to update the iDrive.... to think they would just stop one day is retarded.... computers are smart enough to keep updating and sorting the data. They will be using the same satellite technology so i see no reason for the updates to stop.

More proof that you want the 19 inch rims for best performance.

Not to mention the 19 rims look infinitely better than the 18 inches that look too small and SUV-ish on the M3:

"When new, our M3 gripped the skid pad at 0.90g, while in wrap-up testing it generated 0.94g. The slalom revealed the same behavior pattern, as it recorded 70 mph when new, and then went 70.4 mph at the end. All of these numbers, however, are slower than the results when we fit the car with the optional 19-inch wheels."

Why do people keep saying there will not be a next gen. M3 sedan? The next 3er isn't even out yet. Yes, I'm sure BMW is paying attention to how well these cars are selling, and please keep in mind they were NOT selling very well at the end of 2008. I almost jumped in to a CRAZY cheap lease on one myself (after $12,000 off MSRP), but backed out last minute as I realized just because you can afford it, it doesn't mean you should. But BMW must also consider that late 2008 was a rough economic time in the US (and worldwide) and even though I haven't kept track, I'm sure they've adjusted production to match demand to keep from having to run crazy lease and purchase deals. My point is, lets don't assume there will not be another M3 sedan. If history continues to repeat itself, the next 3er will be even more massive and more expensive. People that cannot afford an M5, but want an M sedan will need something to purchase. I don't see Audi or Benz dropping their hot-rod M3 competitors anytime soon...

I WILL own one eventually, once I do, I'll never let it go! Hope to amass a decent collection of BMW's as I age. I've almost got my first one paid off!

Probably still be cheaper to repair/replace as necessary when out of warranty than buy a new one. At $1K/month for new car (assuming $10K/down, 5 yr loan...just for sake of argument), you can do a lot of replacing/repairing of an older car. My problem is patience. I always want the new technology. I really plan to hold on to this one....my famous last words that have been ignored a couple times. Let's hope the M3 out of warranty does not break the bank.

edit....just noticed you said 20 years. Ok...that is a really long time from now. Kids will be out of college and I will be retired. Scary to think about that when the kids are still in booster seats.

Yes, actually the 13.2 second quarter is very slow. Even the 12.9 new with good tires is on the upper end of the range.

You guys are making me change my mind....Test drove an 08 M3 Sedan with 18K Miles on it and DCT with Tech Pkg out of state. Loved it so much! (Previously owned an E46 M3 LSB Vert) Thought I was going to buy it tomorrow, then the mgr sent me an offensive email and I decided not to buy even though it was a good deal.

Then I was thinking today about buying an 09 550i from a private seller - 10K miles - $78K MSRP - Fantastic deal.....

Now after reading this thread Im thinking about reversing everything.

M3 is Jet Blk over Blk - Tech Pkg, DCT, Ipod, Prem. Snd.

Hmmmm....

After reading this, I found myself (again) asking the question... why the fuck won't there be a sedan for the next gen M3?

When I got my 335XI sedan, I said to myself, if only they put the face of the coupe on the sedan it would be perfect. Then, the M3 sedan was born. I saw one almost exactly the same as mine, color, interior, wow,....I was drooling and thought I should trade in for one. But the weather here in Calgary demands an all wheeler. When I get some extra $$, I will consider it, even a used one but still keep my XI. I salute you M3 sedan.

Much quicker....from 3k rpm the M3 pulls like crazy in any gear...335i feels like a joke.

Steering was too heavy in 335i at low speed, otherwise very good. But the M3 steering gives an well-being feeling that is difficult to describe.
