Viper Remote Start
Wanted to put one in my e46 SMG but the folks at Directed said it would be pretty difficult, so I gave up. Sure it would be the same for DCT. Might be possible in 6MT. I have them in my other cars and they work flawlessly.

I have 6MT. Really interested in getting the A/C started before I get in the car to cool off those black leather back huggers.

You can do that via iDrive. Set a time and it will start the AC and will run for 30 mins I believe. Just make sure to drive the car for a some time after to recharge the battery.

This implies that the aircon is battery run by an electric motor, which isn't the case. |

Edit: Aircon is not battery run, but ventilation via the timer is battery run. Last edited by SonnyJack; 08-09-2010 at 12:18 PM.. Reason: add'l info |

Of course if the timer is set / forgoten to run every day and the car is not used afterwards to charge the battery then at some stage it will be drained (although I am sure there must be some protection preventing this from happening i.e. not allowing the ventilation to start below a certain battery power level). |

Is the timed ventilation really that useful? Anyone in a hot climate tried it? I suppose I should try it, but I figured if it's 98 outside, I'm not going to gain much, maybe cool the air a bit but the surfaces will probably still be scorching. If not timed right it only takes 3-5 minutes to reach searing air temps again. Whether it's 120 or 105 in my car, I'm still going to have to wait for the A/C to kick in before becoming comfortable.
