I-drive ceramic controls swap?

So the 5 and the x5 have a ceramic I-drive controls option....

and the I-Drive controls and shape look the same to me....

So my idea/question

Could we swap the I-drive control on the E92 M3 for the Ceramic (nicer) version from the 5, 7, and Xs?

Using the search brought up many false positives. has anyone seen this done before?

Every thread I found on this topic had a dead end some time last year but it doesn't look like anyone has tried it yet.

can some one reccomend me some good part place/website to get good prices on OEM parts. I've been studying the part shapes.

Plan A is that the internal main heart of the controller will fit into the 3 series harness with some minor surgury.

Plan B is to figure out how to dissasemble the buttons and internals and reassemble them onto the 3 series controller.

the controller from the 6/5 series looks completely different than a 3er controller to do a direct swap. Only option I see is to remove just the buttons portion..and even that may not work
