Aux lead

Just got an AUX 3.5mm lead for my ipod to play music in my M3 (non USB) and the quality is nowhere near as good as CD, is this correct or have i purchased a dodgy lead?

Sometimes I get bad quality from my iPod but I have the iPod option and the two-pronged cable. But, when this happens it means the connection is not tight; reseating the plugs solves the problem. Make sure the plugs are all the way in and are tight first.

But, yeah, I don't think you'll get CD quality out of the 3.5mm ear-jack. It shouldn't be crap though.

i think you'll have better luck with a cable like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5mm-Audio-Line...item27b93a9307

that uses the line out , not the headphone out
which is higher quality
plus the usb can plug into a car charger to charge the ipod

Nice find. I just purchased one.

Although I would like to be able to control my iPhone through my car. Too bad I don't have the iPhone integration kit.

Do I have any other options for this?

I bought this and just had a chance to use it today.

Terrible audio quality. There is a lot of static which makes this thing only useful as a charger. Occasionally if I hold the cord just right it sounds great. This item is a great idea with poor execution.

Are there any others out there with a higher quality?

then i think you might have an issue with your aux in plug
because i ordered it and it sounds a lot better than using the headphone plug on the iphone
better bass and i think clearer treble, as you are using the line out, and not the headphone which passes through the internal amp of the iphone

I read up a little and some mentioned a grounding issue in my stereo.

I'd like to get to the bottom of it because if this worked it would be awesome.

Basically, if you suspect grounding problems then you would want to check all the connections: power, ground and signal. Make sure wires aren't pinched too. I've done this with HAM radio installs and it's not fun. Good luck.

Cheers.
