I purchase an extended 5year warranty when I bought my 09 last summer. I am seriously thinking about voiding it by installing a supercharger before the end of winter. Warranty or not the only reason I would sell this car is if it would be cheaper to buy another one due to some sort of catastrophic failure.

Budgeting this engine to last to ~125k, then will get a rebuilt one.

Bought it cpo'd with 1 year warranty left. Plan to get rid of it in a few years. Then buy a used '13 model or m4 if it blows the e92 out of the water.

For the $3,000+ the BMW extended warranty costs, might not be worth it unless you blow your engine and have to spend $30,000 getting it rebuilt/labor.

I got mine extended by USAA (Veterans only) for $1800 and covers everything and some of the BMW extended. I plan on keeping this M3 till I'm rich enough to buy a Ferrari in cash (guess its gonna be a while). lol!

It already covered my $400+ battery and labor and clearing codes. Worth it? I think so. Better to have it and not need it than wish you had it when you need it.

Cheers,

Definitely! Nothing else on the market intrigues me enough to replace it anyway. Would love to put an M3/M4 next to it in the garage though!

Yeah, you eventually stop caring about the new zippy hotness and go towards the practical and/or classic/iconic.

Add another to the drive it till the wheels fall off list, and even then I could turn it into a track car.

Agreed 100%
I got a wandering eye, for women and cars.
Cars are easier to attain however..
I'm on my honeymoon phase with this car so I admit that I am falling for this car harder than the rest, but still If I see the right tush, I might not be able to stop myself!

Won't need extended warranty until mid 2016, but do plan to keep the M3 beyond expiration of extended warranty.

Madness. The ultimate combo is an F80 M3 sedan for daily driving and a (supercharged?) stripped E92 M3 track car.

It's my daily driver, and has to a) stay reliable and b) not cost me $25k for a new engine. It will likely be replaced (with another M3 ) before the extended warranty runs out.

Cheers

I played that warranty game with a couple of M6s, but bought my M3 with no warranty and no worries. A great car all around.

Bought it already out of warranty. Like I said before, short of a blown engine, I can pretty much tackle most things(got access to a BMW indie garage's tools and expertise) It's always the diagnosing part that gets frustrating, regardless of vehicle. Only difference is attempting different fixes as you go through the differential(the list, not the part), gets expensive with this car.

I bought the extended powertrain warranty on my '08. It expires in March of 2015, and that'll probably be when I replace it with a F80. With 63,000 miles on it, it's been pretty reliable, although I had to replace the thermostat a couple of months ago. (Unbelievably - it wasn't covered by the extended powertrain warranty.)

I don't drive enough miles to even think about it (about 5k per year), since I'd always run out of time before miles, and miles are what counts most. I drive it almost daily, so no worries about garage queen mechanical problems.

Just remember, they wouldn't sell it if they didn't make money on it.
