Test drive setup questions
Hi I'm going to test drive a couple different M3's next week. I hope to drive both a MT and DCT if all works out. I've read a bit and do understand a little about how to set them up, but I don't want to let an improper setup ruin my test drive. I'm quite unfamiliar with Mdrive and I don't want to rely on the sales person to set it up properly. So before I take each car out what do I do to make sure it is set to make sure I can really feel the best the M3 has to offer. Thanks for the help.

I want to add that if you also want to experience the docile side of the M3, after you complete the test drive and as you're driving back, ask the guy to change it to Comfort mode so you notice the difference. Whatever you do, make sure you see the RPM needle passing 5500 few times during your test drive.

Make sure you try out the side bolsters and extend the front part of the seat to the back of your knees. Those seats are so amazing. Its like being hugged by God

Try everything. Drive a bit with the power button off, then turn it on while driving to feel the difference in throttle sensitivity. It definitly makes the car feel faster. Also adjust EDC between comfort, normal, and sport modes. Try doing it over bumpy roads if possible to feel the difference in stiffness between the three. Also, in M-Drive, try the servotronic steering set to sport. You will feel the wheel stiffen up quite a bit. You can also set the power button to sport plus through M-Drive. I can't comment on DCT as I have a 6 speed. Have fun!

This stuff is all personal preference, so you just need to play with all of it. The Power throttle setting for example, is something loved by many folks, and I find it too sensitive, especially in a track situation. With the DCT car, be sure that one of your settings includes the S (manual) mode in at least the Drivelogic 4 setting, which is the threshold setting for rev matching on down shifts.

My suggestions for test drive settings on a M3 with DCT:
Normal driving - take it for spin in the beginning with these settings on: - If it has EDC: put on comfort - steering: normal - power: off - Drivelogic: s4 - DSC on Then press the 'M button' - NOTE: add these settings on for M Mode before you go driving, so its preset to the 'M button' - EDC: put on sport - steering: sport - power: on - Drivelogic: s5 or s6 - MDM Once you press the M button during your test Drive, you will be ready to buy.
