Does anyone have BE Bearings in stock?

I’ve called about half a dozen places so far and I haven’t found a set yet. :/

Aiming to install the new motor over the general christmas break. Would really like to not have to drop the subframe and do it in the car if I don’t have to.

Sorry if this sounds like an obvious question, but I need to know myself as well. Did you call and check BE bearings themselves? Are they out? I need to order a set myself.

Interesting to hear. I'm planning on changing mine out before the end of the year and hadn't even considered this to be a possibility.

I'll check with my shop tomorrow morning.

I checked with my local shop, and they are backordered. I haven't called BE directly, but I've been told that there is an up to 8 week backorder.

I just ordered a set from a vendor here last week, and was told they're back ordered 4 weeks out.

Drop the subframe. It is not a lot more effort and will save you time changing the bearings.

It’s a lot more effort than doing it before I put the engine in.

As much as I fear main bearing failure, having (probably) just experienced it, I am not convinced that it's worth changing them on a 13K motor. All I end up with is a new set of stock main bearings, as opposed to better. In some years, I'll probably do them. Ideally with something improved, but otherwise fresh stock when there's real value to getting fresh stock. (I'm thinking 50k on the motor or so - which could be 8 years in the future.)

Ahhh, sorry, missed the 13k part.

I agree, with no suitable aftermarket that has more clearance, there's no point.

I got mine from Bimmerworld about a month ago. Guess there was a surge in buying?

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I kept calling around and found a set. Sadly, it was the last one.

Bimmerworld said they have been backordered since Nov with no ETA.

I ended up with the WPC treated ones instead.

I'd get the VAC coated bearings over the WPC ones. The VAC ones don't have added clearance but the coating is good and they have lead/copper in the bearings to measure wear. WPC uses the newer harder bearings.

Talked to my shop today. Says that Clevite (the manufacturer of both VAC and BE bearings) is currently on an 8 week production backlog. As my shop understood it in talking with suppliers, VAC and BE utilize the same molds to create the bearings from BE. I have not heard this before; is this true? It looks like VAC can be obtained, but ETA on BE could be two months out. Is the difference between VAC and BE just a coating?

I was really trying to get into my shop to change out bearings before the end of the year and had full intention of using BE. Is there a reason to not use BE other than parts' availability?

The difference between VAC and BE is not just a coating. The VAC have stock clearances with the coating. The BE have extra clearance.

Bimmerworld had it in stock and Performance Technic recommended me to go with those. They will be installed in a few weeks.
