Thinking about Repainting my M3

I have a Jet black e92 that I was thinking about selling but I'm also considering doing a color change and keeping it. Currently painting my turbo e46 m3 Stryker Purple but I didn't feel bad about repainting that car because it was a 6k car that needed a lot of help anyways.

My e92 is still worth a fair amount of money and I imagine that repainting it would just kill any resell value. I know if I repaint it I would basically have to keep it forever unless I want to throw money away. Which is fine. I can't imagine any other car I rather have for 30k.

Would it be better to paint it a BMW/BMW Individual color or something completely 1 off like Volcano Red from McLaren.

Plan on doing jams and undersides, but not planning on pulling the engine or the interior. Since it won't clash with anything.

PS: I work at a body shop so I know what my cost is and its less than getting a good wrap done. Also I don't like wraps. They always have this ugly texture to them.

Cool! I'd say go for it, if it's an early coupe I can't see it being too detrimental to the value and black isn't that desirable (mine is jet black too) if it's done well and documented too it might add value. BMW die hards would tell you to paint it a factory color but volcano red would look awesome…

Agree - If you have the means to paint it well, do it!

I painted my m3 Lime rock grey metallic. I also however never have the intention to sell it. But if you are in a position to repaint it who cares what it does to value. The amount of joy you would get having it the color you really want is worth so much more then worrying about resale.

Go for it. The McLaren Volcano Red is a striking color.

Given you can do it properly for less than a wrap I can think of no reason not to. If we are not taking about a collectible variant (LM or individual car, etc.) it will not hurt value at all, maybe quite the opposite. And Volcano Red is

Thanks for the input everyone! I think the biggest thing I was psyching myself out about was that people would call it a hack job for not wanting to strip it to a bare chassis and shoot the whole thing. I just don't see it necessary for a black car. Does anyone have any ideas for cool one off colors?

If you were in the PDX area, I would suggest looking into liquid wraps. But Medford is a bit far away. They have actual depth and clarity, while still being removable. But you're at the mercy of the skill of the person spraying. Things like light and heavy spray stick out in a few spots. And the orange peel is limited by the factory paint below.

Here's mine that replicates San Marino blue. I may do a full repaint at some point, but this is a nice holdover and way of testing colors.
