I think you guys are right - if you want it then you've gotta pay - makes the sale margin pretty good for BMW OZ though

Yeah I guess car makers don't have excess capacity, the machines and workers don't just sit around on smoko all day long but imagine if they aimed for 100,000 M3s in Oz and priced them at $80k.

EDIT: Actually don't imagine that, Geri and I would

Thanks guys although I understand the basic economics of this. Interesting to note that UK prices (converted to A$) looks roughly the same with full options etc perhaps less LCT. The possibility that some parts of the world subsidise other parts is interesting.

When the american prices were first being discussed I had a quick look at BMW site in other countries that drove on the correct side of the road and concluded that we were not paying much more (if any) than them. We actually have lower pricing than South Africa and India!

Despite everything the M3 is still a great bang for buck vehicle – currently waiting for my slot in June/July which seems just too far away – having said that driving a company hack while I wait is good for the spirit and for building the anticipation – even the lads at work are getting excited !

June/July? It's a pity humans can't hibernate to pass the time. Good luck.

Wheels magazine summed the M3 up pretty well:

"...for those who can afford it, this BMW remains a true performance bargain, one of the world's best-ever all-rounders."

Enjoy the wait, it makes delivery just that much sweeter.

You can track your car through the build and transportation once you have the VIN, that might help the days pass by.

Wheels will soon say "For 150k the Nissan GTR is absolutely the most bang for your buck performance vehicle".

Motor Mag will say "The Gallardo and 911 turbo drivers will shit there pants after a V-Spec GTR flys past them"

I absolutely love competition

Hey guys,
I'm a newbie here and was wondering if you can answer me some questions.

1/ I have been searching for some info on the M3 convertible release date for here in oz but cannot locate it, if its been said or not. Does anyone have any inside info on this?

2/ If no release dates have been said as yet can i still go into a dealer and order one and then play the waiting game like most of you have with your coupes. Me and a mate are going to order one each and we just do'nt know how to go about it.

Any information will be much appreciated and i look foward to chatting to you guys in the future.

1. No idea sorry, however if you are east of the city I would highly recommend dealing with Chris Ritzka, the special vehicles dealer at Doncaster BMW, he will tell you what he knows. Tell him the "pilot with the M3" sent you, he will look after you!

2. Yes, they may want a deposit to secure your spot however. I don't know how this relates to the vert, but in my case I ordered early September (to a specific spec), the car was released early October and delivery was early February. I could have picked M3s over that period but they would not have been to the spec I wanted.

Hey Guys,
Well after doing plenty of research i went into BMW today, placed my order for AW E92 M3, woohoo!! i've gone for the M-DCT, Extended Fox Red, Brushed Alum interior trim, High End Audio and the 19's of course. Now the wait begins.
You're right about the Tax, man what a joke, when i was there the guy brought up on computer how much they really are, i don't think he was supposed to show me that but the price was $132k. So yeh your price of $40k tax is pretty much spot on.
The bad news though is that they have had a massive response for the M-DCT and can not guarantee i'll see it this side of xmas.
Anyway have a good w/end and talk to you soon.

Congratulations Androo!!!

I think you will be glad you are not lugging around the extra weight of the E92.

Did you go the rear roller blind? It is very handy when driving on sunny days and when you leave the car outside in the sun.

Hi Androo,
Nice choice. AW with FR
I have the feeling that M-DCT is very popular now it has been announced. I had an e-mail from BMW Sydney yesterday saying they had 4 new M3s for sale, 1 immediately and 3 available next month, all manuals of course. These are vehicles that have already been specced and the buyers have recently pulled out (possibly to get a M-DCT car?).

Quick question, do the cars car from Germany or from Sth Africa, just curious if there is anyway of tracking the cars the same way they do in USA. Thanks GeriFix, I just hope I get it this side of xmas.
Oz, it maybe because me and my business partner both ordered one. I guess it was a good sales day for them.
The E93 comment is that for me? Isn't that the Vert? i ended up getting the coupe. Sorry i'm not up with the bmw lingo yet..lol
