Smile MLB World Series

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays

What do you think? I think the Rays are going to do it, but then again I'm biased because I'm a fan.

Any Ray fans here?

I've found myself secretly cheering for the Rays so I guess I'm fan now.
I think they're way too hot and can't be stopped.

It's going to be Rays with the World Series and Bucs with the Super Bowl

I want 7 games. I've kind of adopted the Rays since my Jays didn't even make it into the playoffs but at the same time I'm a Victorino/Utley/Rollins fan. Scrappy, tough ballplayers right there.

I like the Rays 'cause their team payroll is less than the left side of the Yankees infield (A-Rod and Jeter)

They are everything that is right with baseball

Yep their payroll is 29th in the league. Lowest payroll team to make it to the World Series since Flood and Free Agency in 1976.

The main reason for this is that most of their talent isn't eligible for the free agent market yet.

What’s the chance they can win it all? They almost shit the bed against the Sox, so I wouldn’t really call them a ‘hot’ team right now. Their inexperience showed with all of the errors, but they had strong starting pitching, and generally good relief.

It will be interesting when they go to Philadelphia and don’t have the cushion of the DH spot. Without solid starts, they’ll have to dig into their bullpen and bench when the batting order comes back around to the pitcher’s spot.

I don’t think the Phillies have strong enough pitching to hold down the Rays. If the Rays lose it’ll probably come down to errors in the field and poor managing (Maddon needs to stop trotting Wheeler out there).

It’s good to see this team have people rooting for them. I just wonder how many of these fans could have named 5 players on the team at the beginning of the season.

I think the Rays have a pretty strong bullpen. I'm not too nervous if they have to resort to it early on.

I have to agree with everything you said though, spot on. The Rays had a lot of errors during the ALCS, whereas the Sox were virtually error-free.

I'm just glad I don't have to watch Youkilis go up at bat again. I don't know how he does it. Everything he does is so wrong it ends up being right. I don't get it.

Well, I would only say that the bullpen faltered at 2 times. Game 5, 8 runs in the last 3 innings, and Game 7, it took (by my memory) 4 pitchers to get through the 8th.

We'll benefit in so many ways by not having the Sox go to the WS. But really the most important thing is that we won't have to listen to Tim McCarver talk about how amazing of a team the Red Sox are - I already heard enough from the TBS crew.

I couldn't name 5 Tampa players then, and can't name 5 players now.

So right. Ok, what's the name of that one guy...his voice sounded like it had an air bubble in it...drove me insane throughout the entire series...he had grey combed back hair I think...god I was thinking about muting the game when he spoke sometimes.

It's funny though, every time Youkilis and Pedroia went up to bat there'd be a simultaneous "god, screw that guy" coming from us. I laughed when I saw one clip playing between innings where Longoria imitated Youkilis. Funnier is how opposite their batting styles are.

Oh and both b.j. and evan have a shot at breaking the postseason HR record. A really good shot.

Lou Piniella used to manage the Devil Rays a few years back. It was a big deal then because he went to high school in Tampa (mine ), but nobody ever conceived that they would make it this far this soon when he left. Looks like it was a good move.

Also, where the hell did Longoria come from? He's doing really well for only a rookie.
