OEM 19" Alloy refurbish

Hello,

have you guys refurbished your wheels before?

Clipped the rear one today in the car park.

But all the wheels suffer from some weird clouding and they all have the edges like chopped of a 1/2 mm along the rim like from removing the tyre or something?

Thinking all doing them all at once. Not sure the cost / time. And is it possible to achieve that polished / chrome look?

yes..you need to have them "diamond cut" , not all repairer can do it though and it more expensive and can only be refurb once !. I have a second set powder coated in smoke chrome , looks awesome !

I just bought another set instead. It was cheaper than refinishing since oem 19 is not desirable and very cheap. I got a set for $250 and sold my old set for more

Did you buy the car new? Are you sure they haven't been "diamond cut" before?

The edge being chopped all the way around is what a diamond cut wheel would look like. Maybe if its going cloudy poor quality laquer was used.

we cant get it here for $250 lol, more like £800+ , even the 18" wheels sell for £800+

£600-800 on ebay but they're usually scratched as well.

Tempted by replica style ones, but are they ok? Feel bad / guilty using fake alloys.

Brought car as used and this weird 1/2mm eaten away all around the edge. Can feel it with the finger. So you reckon it will cost a lot to fully repair these wheels?

basically your just having a reburb and they fitted it for you as £300 is same cost of reburb all 4 wheels 9maybe more actually).

I wouldn't go for re-manufactured wheels when you have OEM's on the car just get them refurbed properly as agree with earlier post, suffering from poor quality lacquer/job first time....

With Diamond cut finish there are only so many times this can be done before the wheel is too thin and therefore unsafe. When we see the wheels in the flesh without the tyres on them we can confirm this procedure can go ahead. An alternative to this would be to have the wheels painted all over, so lets see.

The process we do here is buy stripping the tyres off first, then the wheels go into the chemical stripping tanks overnight, the chemical we use is very eco friendly and will not effect the the alloy. There wheel is then checked for cracks and bends. The next stage is a shot blasting process which removes any paint that may be left, then into the preparation state to remove any curbing marks, then into the primer stage, then paint, then out into the Diamond cut area, then back into the lacquer stage. There are quality control process all the way through the stages to get the ultimate finish.

The process takes approx 3 days, there is a train station over the road from us, so might be worth checking your route home, alternatively a hire car will cost you £50+vat for the 3 days.

But I had many discussions with other members and apparently they can never get it to be 100% diamond cut OEM finish and they have used lepsons before.

Ah sorry my bad didn't realise for a diamond cut it wouldn't be back to 100%, what about a nice anthracite powder coat

Yep, those look have already had a simple diamond cut once around the outer edge with a lathe. I'm pretty sure that they won't be able to get them back to oem.

If it was me I'd be getting them powder coated.

Look up username 'dips' on the cutters forum. He did a diamond cut on my OEM wheels for less than £300.

Wow, looks good, but not sure about mine since there is already a chunk that's been cut from what it seems.
