You maybe right about the 991 turbo, however my situation is such that if I want to keep my GT3RS I need to trade in my DD (the M3) no more garage space. That means the car should perform as a DD and I think the turbo could be better in that. If I get the viper I will trade in the GT3RS for the viper and the M3 for a 911 4S as DD.

Hi Guys I work at Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC, and was there when they drove in new Viper at 3am in morning during the set up of 2012 auto show. The look and sound was incredible, everyone stopped working in that part of convention center as everyone gather to check out this new beast. I was able to sit in the car and can say fit and finish was great nothing like the Viper of old. As far as the look is concerned it stunning in person. I went to look at ZR1 right after seeing Viper and IMO new Viper looks more aggressive and looks like nothing else out there and edges out ZR1 and looks department. Here are some pics that I took that morning as they were setting up Viper also few shots of ZR1.

Well, would you DD the GT3RS? Cause quiet honestly there isnt much difference between that and the turbo in DD ability.

I had a 997 turbo PDK and a 997.2 GT3 (not RS) and the backseat is useless so lets pretend its gone like in the GT3 & RS. Also the active suspension really doesnt help that much and theres the exact same interior space and minimal trunk space. The turbo does have a bit more grunt around town and can get on it easier without being noticed as its dead quiet. Im not sure I could daily a 911/991 variant of any sort since I like having a trunk and the inside is cramped. In fact I picked up my GT-R after the PDK turbo and thought I would DD it the most because of the large size inside and large trunk. At nearly half the price I couldn't care about depreciation and mileage as much. I don't DD the GT-R, but I do try to drive it the most often of all my cars. My current DD is a 335 sedan or the X5. I am definitely holding out for the new M3 sedan as the daily replacement. I suppose there are many people who DD a Porsche and GT-R, but god that must be exhausting at the end of the day if you commute much more than 15 miles or run errands middle of the day. I typically get in and out of my car at least 10 times a day depending on meetings, stops, lunch, gas or market etc. Just kind of an idea since I have tried it with both similar cars. I did consider a basic 991 for a daily though. The price wasn't too step and most the time I could never use the turbo around town anyways. However, all logic went out the window and I got the GT-R lol.

Some thoughts:

1. Nobody DD's a Viper so that conversation is out the window IMO.

2. New interior is supposedly a really premium grade interior

3. The car has really been elevated into a true world class supercar that should be able to run with any Lambo or Ferrari

4. Overall, I do like it, however it looks almost a bit cartoon-like to me. I actually liked the body lines of the previous gen Viper.

I have never had a 911 turbo, though I did test drive the new 991 C2S. I think I can DD that car. I do not use the trunk too much but living in Omaha I would welcome AWD. I thought the turbo will be a nice choice. Of course I dont know how well it will ride, but cant imagine it worse than the GT3RS. I do not DD the RS mainly because it draws too much unwanted attention. And thats the thing, having a nice car in the garage that you use only rarely is just not fun. The RS is my track car, but this year I made it out to our local track (MAM) only 5 times for half a day. So I would like to have something nice for DD.

Very true. The turbo did ride a bit better than my GT3 and it also goes pretty much unnoticed in black. Its still a Porsche, so driving through certain parts of town would often attract unwanted attention out here in Southern California. If you can get by with not needing a trunk then go for it. I wish I could daily drive a turbo cab here in the winter because the weather is 75 and sunny. Pain in the ass fitting golf clubs in the porsche.

Vipers were always able to run with Lambos and Ferraris...but will it be able to run with the likes of the GT3/GT2? That will be the ultimate test.

Didn't the previous gen Viper ACR set the fastest lap record for production cars at the Nurburgring? If yes, I think that qualifies as being able to run with the likes of Ferrari, Lambos, and GT3/GT2's.

I believe the Viper ACR ran a 7:12 but was not a street legal car. The GT2 RS ran 7:18 and was a full on production car as far as I remember and also is one of if not the fastest.
Yes, in general vipers have always been close with the exotics. Granted the Ferraris and Lambos generally dont put up that impressive of times on the Ring. The 458 italia only ran a 7:40. A Porsche 991 Carrera S also runs 7:40 by comparison...even though it has nearly 200 hp less.

Wait, what? The Viper ACR wasn't street legal? I could of swore I saw an ACR on the road...

This Gen V Viper may not be as fast as the Gen IV ACR was, however the Gen V ACR -if it will come out - will probably be very fast. In terms of Ring-times, I would expect the new GTS around 7:14-18 and if there will be a new ACR 7:05 or so.

The ACR is street legal. He is probably refering to the ACR-X which was made at the very end of production and not street legal. The ACR-X set a record around laguna seca only beating the previous record by the ACR lol. The ACR-X never ran the ring, only Laguna Seca in a Road and Track article. The Viper ACR on the ring was street legal on Pilot Sport Cups. Which now come on the Z06 and GT2.

They had one at the Baltimore GP and I shamelessly climbed inside and poked around it. I'll withhold judgement on the interior because this (preproduction?) example had horrible fit &finish, but it might get better once they start cranking them out.

It looked sensational from certain angles and clumsy from others. It's huge of course and has amazing road presence. Not that I could afford one, but I really hope to drive one someday.

+1
I had an '05 Copperhead edition and it was anything but boring.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the cabin heat (even with the top down) but thats easily fixed by installing an aftermarket exhaust (which deletes the center section pipe)..
I heard they fixed that issue in the years after mine....

I stopped by the Dodge dealership today (largest Dodge dealer in the Rockies) and they put me on the list as soon as they get one.
They said it could be Spring

I had a buddy of mine, who was also in the Viper club, that had a twin turbo setup on his '05 Viper and he was putting down 1023HP. If you had raced him, it would have been YOU that would've been embarrassed.
Anyone can modify just about any car and it will spank a stock one
