Custom V1 Mirror Install in E92 M3

I recently did a V1 concealed display install for friend's E92 M3 and thought I'd share a few pics. We hid the main V1 inside his rear headrest and radar reception is 100%. You will lose Laser detection doing it this way, but most agree laser detectors are not effective. My buddy had a laser jammer installed, which is the best way to prevent getting caught by laser. I was able to do a couple of pretty cool things with this mirror - he has the oem mirror with the compass and I was able to manipulate the mirror to allow the display to illuminate through the glass with no etching and not lose the auto dimming feature. Any of the newer model BMW's that do not have the compass have to replace the glass and give up auto dimming with this mod. I've done a few of those as well for some local friends and with the replacement glass I use so far glare hasn't been an issue. The other thing I did was I linked the mute button to one of his homelink buttons so we didn't have to drill a hole in his mirror casing for a separate button.

I can probably help you out with it, you would just need to ship your mirror to me.

Can you post more details of the install? Pics of what the unit looks like in the headrest? Where you need to run wires? How the unit is controlled, etc?

Here's a few pics of a headrest I'm working on. The headrest cover is removed and the rest of the parts are separated. The plastic frame has to be cut to make room for the V1, the inside of the foam will need to also be trimmed to fit the shape of the radar detector. Removing the cover from the V1 will make it a lot easier to fit and will not affect performance. Once the foam has been trimmed enough to fit snugly around the V1 a phone cord long enough to make it to the front of the cabin needs to be plugged into the unit, slip the cover back on and that's about it. The radar detector is controlled with Valentine's remote audio controller, which let's you turn it on/off, adjust volume, etc.. Here's a link to a DIY for installing everything, this was done in a E39 M5. The only difference for E9x M3 is the map light assembly comes off a little differently.

Not really, I build mirrors with integrated boost and wideband gauges for Horsepower Freaks and do the V1 mirrors for whoever wants one. Mostly a hobby for me, I do a couple of these a week.
