Loaner Car

So after a bolt on my diff sheared itself in half somehow, and it is in the shop for a few days the local dealer offered me a handful of 328's and one X3 (the good one). Since my mother was considering buying one I decided to take the X3. It's an odd car. I swear if you accelerate slowly it shifts 5 or 6x in a few hundred yards. And I don't understand why they don't have a tailgate close button in the interior or a reverse camera like a $25k Honda does.

When merging onto a relatively low speed road, I had to step on it and was surprised at its grunt. I've driven 335's (6 MT) for literally a couple of thousand miles, and had a loaner 135i as well for a weekend...but I wasn't expecting this big thing to move as it did. It had a bit of turbo lag, but eventually when the turbo(s)? were in full song it bear'd down and went. Wow. Don't think I'd buy one but it was pretty fun. My wife's Honda Oddessey has some competition finally. Think the wife likes it. She hated the last car (an '03 540i with the sport package), and before that the Volvo V70R...so this is encouraging. Not entirely in the spirit of an M3 forum, but while mine is in the shop I do appreciate the torque and possibilities for the future.

i had an x3 as a loaner a few months back. i liked that it drove like a car, but could romp on it through driveways and not sweat it. gas mileage was ok, pickup was ok, but it would not be a vehicle for me. its just too "meh" for the price.

love the screen name.

I prefer the GLK with AMG package, but that's just me

I had an x3 for a loaner when I had the 328 in for service. It felt like I was driving the 328, just higher. I'd skip it and go for an x5.

Dunno. I have had the car for a couple of months and have not launched it yet. I did a google search and it looks pretty common for 6mt but not dct.

I've got a X3 xDrive35i with the M Sport package and the vehicle is great on the highway. Like you said, it's got enough pickup to surprise most for a small SUV and it handles like a car.

The X5 at the time was the V8 that got lower gas mileage and the wife (it's her car) thought it was a lot bigger and wasn't necessary for our needs.

It doesn't look too bad with the M sport package to be honest.

The turbo lag would annoy me. :/
