Can speak from pure experience there. that an 500whp on a evo generally means e85 or meth but 500whp on a e90m3 is pure pump gas on a smaller blower kit. used ones have gone for as low as 3400 for 625kit. spend 1k on tune and bam 540whp pump gas daily with all the creature comforts.
Faster top speed, maybe. Off the line though? Don't bother.

Not all of driving around on pss expecting to hook. I will gladdly line up with an evo off the line. Life with r888rs in a tq with no tq. You might put 60ft me but I'm already passing you before the 1/8 if you didn't leave your transfercase at the line lol...

From a 30 the m is faster, from the 40, 45, and 50. Top speed isn't really needed. No one is racing to 180.

Now we're talking tires? Okay, no. I won't be baited into a pointless OT flame war here. Let's just agree to disagree. Not like I can prove anything with my X long gone anyhow.

All those cars you see listed in my sig minus th c63 are all on r888 or r888rs. I enjoy having traction lol. Most m owners sware by pss which imo are no where near grippu enough to use even a 595 kit. I avaidly race and doing 1/2 mile 1/4 and road course events so but I'm not the typical m owner in thatsense I would assume. No war just a friendly debate.

Lmao, Im not a subie fan boy. Theres a reason why they give away evos and subies hold there value, I think both cars are not great. You could point out one issue on the evo and every other car on earth, good argument. Not sure what modifications your talking about. both cars have a strong aftermarket and inexpensive.

Not to mention both an evo and an sti couldn't keep up with my old Z4M around offramps and such, my cars pulling away and there cars are screeching while going off the road, shit cars for handling. If all you care about is horsepower and going fast in a straight line while having a subpar interior, just buy a c5 corvette hillbilly/evo fanboy.

I've owned many cars including your Z4M, a WRX, an Evo, E46 M3, etc. You've obviously never driven an Evo if you think it's a shit car for handling. Offramps and such...? Yes, the Evo would still smoke your Z4M on an offramp or onramp. No, the Evo isn't for straight line racing. You've obviously never been to a track as they are excellent platforms for the track.

Not sure where you reside but in the Northwest, Evos hold their value much better than Subies. Especially the VIII's and IX's. And as far as performance mods go, I'm talking about fuel pump/injectors, intercoolers/piping, boost controllers, etc. The Subaru is a shit design to begin with as they use top mount intercoolers as opposed to FMIC. But you wouldn't have a clue would you? I'm not an Evo fanboy, more of a performance enthusiast. Hence EVO > STi

Ok, I'm done with this thread now. You got pwnt

if you get an EVO X great car, but you'll be missing out on one of the best high-revving V8's ever made.

Evo's have heat and headgasket issues at the OP's HP level. The Evo community doesn't always talk about it. If you run into Scott Gray of RRE fame, ask him.

I have 2 sets of Evo cracked pistons in my garage that say they're no cheaper to maintain than Slowbaru's and the Mitsubishi corporate culture is HORRIBLE compared to Subaru. off topic but a 996 911 with race slicks is every bit as fast on a tight track as either one for the same $ and less drama.

The Evo 10 is an econobox and heavy. too many compromises. IMHO the Evo 9 has a better steering feel and was more fun and faster w/ same HP.... like the '70 - '72 240z vs 260 and 280.

I haven't heard of nor experienced any heat/headgasket issues with Evos, transmission yes. The guys that modify Evos to amazing WHP levels up here in the Northwest are English Racing (I'm sure you've heard of them). They do a great job of making 9 sec/10 sec Evos that are also reliable.

Tuning could be the issue with heat, the fans can be programmed to turn on at lower temps and larger intercoolers are a MUST if going high HP. English Racing has done a good job breaking into the 4B11 and making a ton of power out of them, but I agree that the IX is the more "raw" feeling car.

PS, I've had 2 '74 260Z's, 2 '78 280Z's, and I currently have a '73 240Z, so I know exactly what you mean

I've owned two Evos before including an Evo X.

If you're running an Evo X, I would try to run a milder tune. They produce good power with a good tune and a few bolt ons. Once you run big power, the all aluminum 4B11 engine isn't as robust as the older 4G63 so you'll run into some problems.

Even with a fairly stock Evo X, it runs very fast lap times on track. I've yet to match my Evo lap time on track in my M3. I'm almost there but it takes a lot more driving skill and practice to find that fine balance with RWD. The Evo is hands down easier to go fast in. Evo X is also faster around corners with the S-AYC compared to the Evo 8/9. It feels RWD in some corners with rotation under throttle.
