Low mileage oil change
NOt daily driver,no tracking probably putting 7k a year. Question, last oil changed,August 2013,I'm gonna change it myself in 2 mos and my car is saying 7k left to go. Do I have to reset the computer every annual oil change? Thanks.

At least my dealer will change the oil annually, if you haven't reached the computer's predicted oil change interval...so, if it's still under warranty, they'll do it for free.

I wouldn't reset it. The oil life meter (OLM) is intelligent and does look at your driving habits, ambient temperature, oil contamination, etc. to adjust the interval. It is not a dummy light that just counts down to 24 months/15k.

It is an intelligent OLM. We talked about it before in the other oil threads. There are BMW technical documents that describe it. Here is the document (it applies to the S65): http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...3&postcount=16 If you don't believe me, take a 1000 mile road trip. At the end of your trip, the OLM will not be down 1000 miles. As far as measuring oil quality, the sensor is a basic dielectric setup. It measures the conductivity of the oil.

Just because it uses the same sensor doesn't mean it uses all of the information available. I have never seen anything but a mile-for-mile decrease in the oil change interval on my obc. Iirc the owners manual also discusses change intervals differently for n54 vs s65, for instance
