e92 vs Nissan GTR vs the competition

Hi, former lurker here. After reading the reviews and discussions regarding the new M3, I am beginning to wonder if the M has fallen off its lofty pedastole. Being an owner of an e46 M3 for almost three years, I was immediately taken by the old e46 design. I love my car as I am sure most of you do. I am different than a lot of people who post here in that I actually like the way the new M looks (although I hate the visible muffler). What does concern me is the performance. I already have a deposit down at Global Imports BMW here in Atlanta, so I was definitely excited about the new car. My question is that if BMW hasn't created a car that best the competition that is currently out there, ie the RS4 then what about the newcomers? For instance the Merc C63 and most notably the Nissan GTR? I love Porsches and when I bought the M3 I actually test drove one and pondered buying one. I ended up deciding that I needed a trunk for 2 sets of golf clubs (I know...I know a cliche!!) The Nissan looks to fit that bill and it also appears to be a knockout in terms of performance. I am not a badge junkie, so names don't mean anything to me. Will the Nissan GTR become the best practical sports car? Or will it be the Merc c63 or CLK63 or the RS4 or RS5? I am hoping that these reviews aren't giving us the total picture since I haven't seen any real performance numbers yet (but the brakes and steering are bothering me a bit). What do you all think?

thanks

Nissan GTR is competition for the 977TT and is out of the M3's league

The C63 AMG is also well out of the M3's price bracket.

As for the RS4 we will just have to wait for some actual comparisons until then everyone needs to relax.

light steering feel and single piston brakes were both issues with the E46 M3 which you love so much. Personally I think its a non-issue.

I have no idea was this car will be price wise but everything that I have read says that it will be a touch more than the M3. I agree with you that it will be marketing suicide if Nissan prices above the M3 into the Porsche catagory but then again....I don't own the company. If the car is priced about 65 to 70 with some options then I think Nissan will have a hit on their hands; otherwise, it will be disaster.

Nope, almost everything I have seen puts the GTR in the range of the base 997 but with 997TT performance. Expect it to be around 80K....

I have heard the same, I have also heard that it will be very limited production, maybe one car per dealer with dealer markups expected to hit over 100k. Don't know how true this is though.

that's the only way they may be able to make the price that high, super low production like a NSX

The current GTR is priced higher than M3 and it sells. It's aim for different segement and different needs. Yes, it's not as mass produced as the M3.

wow i just do not know where to start responding to that!! OMG, i dont believe anyone would say that about the GTR that's been long for a long time and is well known to match performance of european exotic cars. it is known as the 'japanese answer to ferrari' for a reason.

the GTR will probably sell regardless how much it costs as long as it competes with PORSCHEs not BMWs, and it already does.

hold on.. brb, need to take my chill pill(s)

The GTR will have a few models.. if they do decide to bring them all to the US it will sale for sure.

base one will be around the same price as the M3 60k and it'll go up to the 80k.

3 versions have been announced. The 1st to be released will be in the mid $70's. The second, a "stripped down" version (not sure what that means exactly) to base at $57K. Finally, an all-out versions in the $90's will be released.

You can probably google for the exact prices, I remember the $57K because that's the one on my radar.

GT-R Trim levels and pricing (unofficial)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The GTR is expected to be available in three different model levels. Base level will be a 480hp twin-turbo V6 engine in the standard base GTR as well as the middle level GTR V-Spec. They will be priced at roughly $57,000 and $67,000 respectively. The range topping EVO version with the same VQHRTT engine as the standard and V-Spec models gets a power increase up to 530hp while losing 220 lbs. from the body for an unbelievably inexpensive price of $94,000.

I have deposits down on both the GT-R and M3.

The GT-R will be priced around $60,000-$70,000. It will have a 450hp (estimated, maybe more) V6 Twin Turbo engine and a 7 speed dual clutch tranny. It will lap the ring well under 7:50. It will have all wheel drive, extensive carbon fiber, Brembo brakes, backseats for 2 (small backseats). It is expected to beat the 911 Turbo. It is coming out in Spring of '08.

After reading all the reviews about the M3...I am glad I have a deposit on the GT-R.

All that is all speculation yet as well. There is even a rumor that there is no manual trans offered. We will see this fall with the release in japan. Someone on the GTR forums posted a time of 7:15 on the ring but no one could find confirmation on it. And was dismissed as too damn fast http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272111

A couple of members in our local Z club are getting them too. For myself I just never liked the looks of this or any of the older skylines. Also cant see servicing a 70k car at nissan dealers. Esp here in vegas all dealers/makes are crooks. We bought every car for past 10 years in cali, the m3 likewise is going to be bought out of state.

Im lucky I have a great dealer/service center (If you been in the nissan/Z community you would know) the new west covina nissan is probably the best dealer/service/parts/tuner etc. on the west coast, staffed with all the ex performance nissan crew. I do all service/install mods there. Btw Alot of gtr buyers are going thru them, if I liked the gtr it would have been thru them.

I just wish they sold bmw's as well.
