Here where I live, a "base model" can refer to a model that has little or no options OR the lowest price model of a series, such as the 323i of the 3 series (here in Canada, that's the 323i, not the 328i like the US).

You can say my base model has a lot of features that are "standard", but on the other hand, I've never heard people use a term like "standard M3" to denote a stripper M3 (or other car). If someone said "standard M3", I'd be thinking they were comparing it to a special edition M3 or something.

This could vary from place to place, I doubt there are many absolutes in life.

I originally thought I'd likely order a new M3 (to get it spec'd exactly like I want), but I'd have to go without certain things I thought of getting anyway because they require the addition of the second hump (in Canada at least). And based on how single-hump M3 are so frequently unloved with prices that reflect this, I am seriously thinking it might be worth my while to pick up a (used or new but on the lot) mutant one-humper.
