How in the hell was i even with a G35 Sedan?

So we both raced from a roll from about 20mph and both punched it. This is the new G35 Sedan with 306Hp if i'm not mistaken. Both of us are side by side and i only manage to pull on him by 1 car length. I know i can't be that bad of a driver, so please don't say i can't drive. Oh, did i mention this g35 was an auto? I've got a manual. any explanation? do i just have a weak example of the n54 or do i need to just suck it up and go proceed?

How hot was it outside? I suspect our Turbos are more affected by the heat than a N/A. When you started at 20 mph, were you in 1st or 2nd gear?

the first time we raced we, i was in second gear. that was when i took him by a car length. The second time was in first gear, that time we were both dead even. the temp outside was a cool 65F. are those cars just really fast?

Sounds about right. The G35 is only a little slower than a 335.

I'll remember not to mess with G35s unless I'm at high altitude then

so if u wer even with him.............how is it that all of the mags r sayin that the 335i coupe is runnin a 4.8 and the g37 is runnin a 5.1/2. i guess that could be one length. if u think about it. at the higher gears where the turbo wears off it would not be as fast as the 306hp NA.........ours would be more like 235hp when the turboes are dying off.

I had several hundred miles of seat time in a g35 sedan and trust me those things are pretty damn quick. I'm not surprised that it was pretty close.

Maybe you pulled the car length in 2nd because you were in the meat of the torque band for a longer duration of time...maybe?

that's exactly what i was thinking. the time it took me to shift from 1st to 2nd in the 2nd run more than likely accounting for me being dead even with him. Are the G35 Sedan's faster than the G37 coupes?

No...but they're not much slower according to various car mags. Gimme a sec to go check Insideline to compare zero-to-whatever times to give you an idea...

According to Edmund's Insideline:

G35S:
0-60 in 5.6s
1/4 mile in 13.9s @ 102mph

G37:
0-60 in 5.5s
1/4 mile in 13.9 @ 102.8mph

The difference is marginal. Apparently the weight must've cancelled out the hp increase.

i saw on one website (dont remember which) that the sedan is actually a tiny bit faster than the g37 coupe, this is because the coupe somehow weighs more. hopefully someone can confirm this but thats all i remember, so if the coupes are close it makes sense that the its even closer with the sedan if it is faster.

One of the articles did mention that the G37 is heavier because of all the reinforcements they had to put in the doors (because they're so long), for the latest side-impact standards.

Stock for stock, you should've won by 2-3+ CLs; are you sure he doesn't have any mods like a CAI, plenum spacer, exhaust, etc.?

btw -- yes, get the PROcede and you'll walk him by a wide margin!!!

i'm actually not surprised at all. reading this forum makes you think that the 335 is almost unbeatable but the new g35 is just as fast. Does anyone know if the g37 is going to be much faster than the g35?

Magazines seem to point to the G37 being equal or a tad quicker than the new G35 sedan. However, one mag gave a 0.1 sec edge to the sedan.

Personally, having driven both in auto - the G37 feels just a bit quicker. It is definitely faster than my 6MT G35 coupe, though.

Well, of course it is; stock G35s run 0-60mph in ~ 6.2 sec. (and 1/4 mi. in low-mid 14s), and modded G35s do it in ~ 5.9-6.0 sec. A stock 350Z is a bit faster since its lighter. It is difficult for a G35 Coupe or older G35 Sedan to run 0-60mph in less than 6.0 sec. and 1/4 mi. in less than 14.0 sec., even when modded; I should know, I drove a modded '04.5 G35 Sedan (with a Z-tube intake/K&N air filter, 3/8" plenum spacer, and Grounding Gear grounding wires). It was even very difficult for a modded G35 to run the 1/4 mi. in the 13s.

The '07 G35 Sedan and the '08 G37 Coupe is definitely faster (and handles better) than the older gen. G35, but they're still not quite as fast as the F/I tt 335i.

The non-revup VQ35DE's might run low 6's to 60, and mid 14's. The rev-up VQ35DEs are definitely mid/high 5's 0-60. From what I've seen and read of the rev-ups, 14.1-2 is common, but 13's are possible in ideal weather/driver conditions.

Judging by the threads I'm seeing posted here (07 G35 sedan, 07 350z), the 335i has a very small edge in a straight line, and it looks like a driver's race when going from a roll.

Unless he had some mods...I think you should have pulled 2-3 car lenghts on him. Try it again. This time race him up to over 100 mph.
