Build thread for 4.4L stroker results in 61HP gain.

I'm hoping it's ok to link other forums

Looks like he's claiming ~150hp gain not 61 though.

Normally you don't get 15% more power from 10% more displacement (probably 5%) but this motor has higher compression at 12.5 instead of 12.0, head work to improve flow, custom cams and tuning.

Yessir. Bimmerworld long tri-Y headers, Bimmerworld catted midpipe, and Capristo with the valves opened (haven't had time to run the vacuum line or the electronics). I plan on adding resonators to hopefully refine the sound a bit as it's too loud for tooling around the neighborhood.

Isn't there a big increase in torque with stroker motors?

Definitely an increase but how much of an increase do you expect from 10% more displacement? I think 5% more torque is actually a lot. Here a tiny bit would have also been from the increased compression. But typically with more aggressive cams and headwork and bigger headers, you trade some low end power and torque for more top end power. I cannot recall whether he got full vanos travel or not with the bigger cams. This build would be like having your cake and eating it - at least as good as a modded stock block on the bottom end and probably a bit better plus way more upper midrange and top end. This was an expensive build with the best parts and custom dyno tuning.

Wow, that's a lot of money for that. Makes me wonder why BMW didn't use their 4.4 in all their production M cars...would have been a nice farewell to their NA line up.

Last I checked, a stock S65 puts out 414HP/300ft-lb and this stroker puts out 550HP/400ft-lb. A 33% increase isn't considered big?

This is way more than just a stroker.
