BMW will also drop a lot of weight with the extensive use of carbon fiber in the front apron, hood, roof, side panels and rear bumper. Like the old CSL the luggage compartment will be made of extremely lightweight cardboard.

Of course, you’re all wondering what’s going to be under the hood. According to AutoZeitung, power will come from the same 420-hp 4.0L V8 engine of the standard M3. However, the ‘M’ division will make some mechanical changes to extract an additional 50 horses for a total of 470-hp. 0-60 is expected to come in well under the 4.5 seconds of the standard M3 with top speed rumored to be around 185mph.

The 2010 BMW M3 CSL is expected to make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show with sales to kick-off in the beginning of 2010. BMW will make only 100 units of the M3 CSL with pricing estimated at less than 90,000 euros ($143,176)."

Not sure how valid, or invalid any of this is. I am just posting these as general interest. I have absolutely no intention of buying one of these if they materialize.
Does that mean M3 will be updated in 2010?

+1 on the pricing and performance figues......!

BTW....can't they keep the A/C and still lose 200pounds !

this car should be more than 5 sec faster than the e46 CSL...

but even 7:45 is faster than the GT3...

and as far as price...the 997S is 94k euro in Germany...

if the prices can be ratio'ed, the new CSL should be ~80-85k US$

Bad news. Klaus Draeger ( chief of development) says no M3 CSL.

"Dürfen wir mit einem neuen M3 CSL rechnen?
Draeger: Nein. Mit den bestehenden Varianten des BMW M3 - Limousine, Coupe und Cabriolet - sind wir mehr als zufrieden."

(He says:No, we are more than satisfied with the 3 current M3 models - Limousine, Coupe and Cabriolet)

Not being into the CSL when it came out I can't really say how big of a hit it really was but I do know that it wasn't the success that BMW thought prior to it's release. I can say as other UK members will agree that here it had to be discounted in the end to sell the remainingg stock and by quite a large pencentage.

Maybe BMW have thought long and hard about this and decided the money would be better spent on a real sportscar to compete with the R8 and 911Turbo and be able to command the retail price expected of it without the shock of a £75~85K retail that an M3CSL would get from the public.

If it was sold in the US the price will not be $143K. Cars are always much cheaper compared to what they sell in europe.

This interview is confusing anyway. Doesn't he also say that Concept CS won't go into production and BMW is not going to lauch 4-door coupe? Even though just couple months ago we heard from BMW officially that CS is indeed going to production and Mr. Richter is the head of project?

He denies a 4-door coupe like the CLS is, but the forthcoming CS is a large GT of a different class. If anything the CS is in the class of the Merc CL.

Best regards, south

That is totaly correct. As a general rule of thumb, US cars are priced about 30% below European prices. CLS would be about $100K (if all these rumers are correct and I still have my doubts).

I could - if I lived in Bayern

Agree w/ lucid though - say EUR20k premium in Deutschland = ~$30k then a ballpark CSL - if it were to come here - would be $100k. Lot of dough, lot of performance.

Thanks for correction. This was also new for me: I have been in awareness that BMW will give birth to 4-door coupe based on CS. In one of the latest CAR magazines there's a story about designer Benoit Jacobs who's working with two _and_ four door CS Concept production variant. Don't know what's the final truth...maybe BMW doesn't know it either...I have been able to inspect CS Concept personally and it works great with four doors also. I hope we'll see it in both variants.

Well, I have to correct myself. You're right and the CS is likely to be a 4-door Coupe. Anyway it's not a CLS competitor since it's going to 'sit' above the 7 series. So imagine an 4 door CL.

Sorry again for the confusion.

No problem, this is just good news! CS really is significantly higher positioned model than CLS, which is actually E60/F10 competitor with more slender design.

Whatever the case is, it would be nice to see a CSL in the future.
