*OFFICIAL* general photography conversation thread

so... I'm leaving for Belize on Friday for a week!

I should have wifi there, so I'm taking my iPad 2 instead of my laptop. Hopefully the two CF cards I ordered from B&H arrive today, so I should have plenty of room for photos.

It's times like these I regret returning the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens. Oh well, we'll see how the photography goes. On a separate note, this is the first time in a while I have a backlog of photos I need to post-process. This trip will only add to the queue.

Good deal. We're off to Vegas on Sunday for the week. We picked what appears to be shaping up as the coldest week so far this year. Oh well, not like we were planning on swimming anyway. At least I won't have to deal with heat distortion and the haze should be minimal.

ahh... we were actually thinking about Vegas too, but then saw the temperatures. We wanted something warm... Belize should be in the mid 80s all week

sun wasn't cooperating as much as I'd like but still got some good stuff. gonna get up early to shoot in the morning light as well.

geeeze, everyone is taking off, the photography threads will be a ghost town!

I'm starting my road trip tomorrow (short trip to my moms place) then really getting some miles under the tires on Friday.

I'll be taking at least 1 camera with me, so i'll be throwing some pictures up once in a while depending what i get up to, and wifi availability.

Do you guys shoot raw or raw+jpg generally? What's the advantage of doing the latter?

I used to do raw+jpg, but i found that made me lazy. It also is just a giant waste of space. So, I'm 100% raw now

It took me a little while to stop doing it, but there are benefits. If you're shooting in burst mode (which i was for a time with my ex-girlfriend and her sports) It severely limits how buffer there is for many shots.

I just learned to import stuff straight to my computer, and just drag and drop the file to Lightroom.

I also learned that anyone who wants to see the pictures immediately as soon as they come off the camera, doesn't really appreciate what you are doing for them. All the more reason to shoot raw

The only time it really backfires if i'm at someones house and i want to unload some pictures for them. But again, it just comes down to a patients thing.

Only going an hour and a half from home so no worries... But a bit of a surprise getting slippery roads..

you have GOT to be fucking kidding me... my gf cannot find her passport!

she said she looked at it two weeks ago to book our flights and put it back where she always puts it... guess what? not there right now.

we have tossed her entire apartment for the past 3 hours looking for it... still nothing. I cannot believe this crap... now of course she's having a panic attack... ugh.

i thought i lost mine too this year, but found it in the slot of one of my bags, trying to hide it where i know i wouldn't lose it.
keep looking, in every place of every item/bag/drawer/box.
